What comes to mind when you think about diversity? Differences can be good or bad depending on your view. If you have watched a movie about wars you might have an idea of what caused it. Freedom Writers is a movie that involves diversity and race, this sort of diversity can cause a serious problem. The way you physically look to the eye tells you how you will be treated by people. “Everybody thinks you should be happy just because you’re young. They don’t see the wars that we fight every single day”. This is the problem that the students in this school face every day, they all have guns to protect themselves and there can be dead bodies everywhere without protection. The actors are Hilary Swank played by Erin Gruwell, Imelda Staunton as Margaret Campbell, Patrick Dempsey as Scott Casey, and Scott Glenn as Steve Gruwell. This film was released on January 5, 2007 by paramount pictures studio. This movie is based on a true story, it is about a 23 years old idealistic English teacher who teaches high school students that are considered to be “unteachable”. Her students don’t respect her together with diversity seems to be the cause of the fight and separation. There are African- Americans, Latinos, Asians, and one white kid in this class and they don’t like each other. Erin tried to connect them together by telling them the affair they have in common, she made them write a diary about themselves every day as well as she told them to read the diary of Ann Frank. The students’ diary made her understand more about her students’ life also it lets the students share their thoughts and ideas. Erin has to take on a part time job in order to buy the resources for her students. While she tries to solve problems for the students, she has her own problems too, her husband doesn’t like how she has to work all day and has no time for him furthermore her head department doesn’t like how she teaches the students. But eventually the students become better, they respect each other, more than that there is no fight anymore.
