In society, does one have free will? Free will is “The power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate; the ability to act at one’s own discretion” (Oxford dictionary). Freewill is decided by one person. Granting society has a strong hold over free will, it is determined by what a person chooses to do. Everyone has a choice in life, even if it may be a bad choice. Such as: the movie Disconnect, the poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” and the play Trifles.
One of the main stories for Disconnect is a story about cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature. For example, in the movie Disconnect a young boy was a victim of bullying. Ben the young boy believed he met a nice girl online, but it was actually two other boys playing a joke. Society makes individuals feel like their relentlessly being judged. In the poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” is about a man who feels similar to not being worthy enough to talk to a woman. He repeatedly puts himself down because of what he assumes the woman will say to him or about him if he talks to them. Prufrock compares himself to multiple people in the poem such as Lazarus, and Prince Hamlet as a way of saying his life is meaningless. In the general public today people are so judgmental about the way an individual looks, dresses, and smells. It is discriminating and it is not right, no one should ever have to be ashamed of how they look. Prufrock doubted himself, but maybe if he gave the women a chance he would be able to see if they thought about him the way he thought of himself.
