Dad in short sleeves, Dad with long sleeves, peeled back by the show of darkened muscles and everything darkened under his sweat and concentration, until all was shoveled clear off the platform and his eyes opened again, bright and blue, so suddenly we were wondering how the sky above so clean and blue could hover over a stink so wretched. His Strength Unlike Paul Bunyan and Babe, his blue ox, Dad sleeps just down the hall, in the other bedroom. On weekends he and his friends trot down the road with their saws and axes, while the ladies stay inside, stirring lemonade. Their boots land so heavy, a solid slab of road can't last and it gives to gravel. As Dad pushes through the thicket branches break back from his wooden shoulders.
We would drag the suitcases up and down the stairs, and all around the living room, laughing hysterically. That was until we grew too big to fit in the suitcases… This apartment, I found to be a suitable substitute. Regardless of that, a week passed and the temperature only got worse. I wrapped a scarf around my neck and lit the stove, tripping over my shoes on the way to fill the kettle. I glared down at them accusingly, as if anyone but me could have put them there; my eyes wandered towards the window after kicking them across the room, which was when I saw him for the first time.
Her scream hit me like a cy- clone, turning my legs to rubber and my innards to slush. Frantic yelling followed the first shrill cry, and my father had nearly flown upstairs before I could even chi... ... middle of paper ... ...the fire. My dolls were twisted and liquefied, broken and scorched, sprawled upon my shelves and floor as if my room was some elaborate death scene. Spectral pieces of shattered glass sparkled amongst the yellow glow of my flashlight, littering my bed and a great deal of the floor. My family was reunited with no tears, but shared a common frustration that knotted in all of our stomachs.
4-Basement/Garage: Dave's mother would make him sleep in the garage in an old army cot. Sometimes it would get really freezing down there and he didn’t even have anything to cover him. Dad would occasionally sneak him scraps of food, but if he didn’t he would have to starve. 5-Bathroom This is where mother played many games of torture with Dave. She played 'Gas Chamber' which is a dangerous game where Dave has to stay in the bathroom with many different chemicals causing him to choke.
Liz Phair plays on the stereo, just loud enough to inhibit a normal decibel of conversation. Old crumpled newspapers litter the two couches beneath the stereo, and rows of red-capped spices, cereal boxes and other assorted dried goods line the racks above the counters. Clippings, sketches and posters plaster the refrigerator and walls. Broken kitchen appliances are stuck above the fridge with black electrical tape and someone has scrawled above them in black marker, "Kitchen appliance graveyard - where all good cooking tools come to die." Ian is tall, with a warm smile and a worn-in look, faded and comfortable like someone's favorite sneakers.
Gavin found himself lost at a minimum of five times during his trek to find what he needed, passing lane after lane filled to the brim with overpriced objects. Even thought this was the store he usually shopped from, the people who managed the place decided to play hide and seek with their customers, moving the vegetables over to the far right wall and replacing the empty space with grains. Something very inconvenient if a person was rushed. Gavin shook his head and looked down at his basket. He had two gallons of milk, a few spices to cook with, toothpaste, and a box of sleeping injections for the nights that needed them.
Summary: Chapter XXXVII Aunt Sally notices the missing shirt, candles, sheets, and other articles Huck and Tom steal for their plan, and she takes out her anger at the disappearances on seemingly everyone except the boys. She believes that perhaps rats have stolen some of the items, so Huck and Tom secretly plug up the ratholes in the house, confounding Uncle Silas when he goes to do the same job. By removing and then replacing sheets and spoons, the boys confuse Sally so much that she loses track of how many she has. The baking of the “witch pie” is a trying task, but the boys finally finish it and send it to Jim. Summary: Chapter XXXVIII Tom insists that Jim scratch an inscription bearing his coat of arms on the wall of the shed, the way the books say.
Napoleon first begins by moving into the farmhouse where he begins spending, “all his time.” With the farmhouse the sleeping in beds comes into play. He then begins trade... ... middle of paper ... ... dogs to run Snowball out. After Snowball is run out of the farm Napoleon decides to actually build the windmill that he was originally opposed to. This example explicitly shows that Napoleon is power hungry and he has gotten what he wanted, absolute power. After a while “Animal Farm” begins to go down hill there is food shortages, hard labor, and death.
My brother – my accomplice – completed a backwards shuffle down the stairs before me, keeping a trained eye on the basement door. Most people think of basements as dull places with low ceilings and mould, but my brother and I had a different idea. Our basement was an extremely large a... ... middle of paper ... ...head again. It was my grandmother. With her head down, she approached me with disappointment, hands stretched out holding a bowl of “I told you so”.
Aster's shop was small, cluttered, and dusty but if you looked hard enough you can find just about anything. I went there mostly for the rare candy and enchanted objects. I had to remind myself to be careful and read labels though 4 months ago I ate a whole bag of jelly bean and got a fever and my whole arm would change colors like a mood ring. "Not this time." "Well that's strange your never down here this often, what about your lessons?"
