According to “Life Portraits,” Theodore Roosevelt ranked 4th and Franklin D. Roosevelt ranked 3rd on a presidential leadership survey of 1145 viewers in December 1999. Also in 2007, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt were rated 4th and 5th presidents favorably by Americans according to a Rasmussen poll. Theodore Roosevelt is the 26th president of the United States who was in the Republican party, and Franklin D. Roosevelt is the 32nd president of the United States who was in the Democratic party. As shown in the survey, both are still loved by American people and influenced the internal and external trend of his day. Although Roosevelts had some similarities in their lives such as inabilities, they had differences in the way of diplomatic relationships like the relationship with Japan. The biggest distinction is that Theodore was the in the Republic Party but Franklin was in the Democratic party. And Theodore failed of the third term as the president, Franklin succeeded of the fourth term as the president which is the reason that U.S amended the constitution as a four-year, two-term presidency. Moreover, they are contrasting in the direction of diplomacy. Theodore Roosevelt was the imperialist and racist that he made the Katsura-Taft Agreement which is the agreement between the U.S and Japan about the supremacy of Philippine and Korea. One of his quotes, “speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far,” shows the face of his diplomatic relationship well. But Franklin defeated imperialist in the World War II, for example, Japanese Empire. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he declared war against Japan on the Day of Infamy Speech. Then Drittes Reich and Regno d’Italia proclaimed war against U.S, so he had to manage two fronts: Pacific front and European front.
