The point of this research paper is to prove that Francis Bacon was Shakespeare. However, the fact of who really wrote the writings of Shakespeare is still unknown today. Many researchers have come up with a list of candidates that have the traits or characteristics of Shakespeare. The list includes Queen Elizabeth I, Edward de Vere, Francis Bacon, Christopher Marlow, and William Stanley. There is even a possibility of William Shakespeare being the actual writer of his works. At the top of that list is Francis Bacon, who had an almost direct match the thinking and personality of Shakespeare when reviewing his literature. Francis Bacon's contemporaries identified him as a secret poet, the chief of them all. He wrote stage plays and renovated philosophy using comedy and tragedy. Francis Bacon was also referred to as both Apollo and Pallas Athena, the ‘Spear-Shaker’ or ‘Shake-Spear’. Two contemporary 16th century poets identified Francis Bacon as the author of the Shakespeare poems, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece. Also, a 16th century collection of manuscripts that once contained the Shakespeare plays, Richard II and Richard III, names Francis Bacon as their author ("Gateways to Wisdom"). Bacon was very multi-faceted who was well respected as he influenced scientists, poets and statesmen. He had been “studied from orthodox and unorthodox perspectives, and attracted widely diverging interpretations” (Boath). Because of his influence, he shares the same characteristics as Shakespeare himself, being the ideal Renaissance man. His brilliance was radiant as he was interested in many things which he showed this through his works. Bacon was also very charismatic and able to project his brilliant ideas to others by enticing them to read his fascinating works just as Shakespeare
