Franca Sozzani was and still is a leading fashion Journalist in the fashion business. Everyone has heard about her audacity, intrepidity, controversy but also magnanimity and kindness. Two main enviable quality of the human soul. She worked hard as she could to made herself the fashion’s most creative editor, becoming an icon and influencer in her own way.
I feel like this is the perfect moment to talk about her, a year from her untimely demise in order to recall Franca’s achievements in the fashion world and to never forget this leading woman.
In honour of her passing, the son Francesco Carrozzini made a captivating film about her, that I highly recommend.

The movie shows Franca Sozzani in all her aspects, from the youth to the last days of her life.
One of the things that inspired her, was a teaching she remind of her parents when she was a young girl. Women had to be independent and they should not base their life on marriage.
She always defined herself as a rule-breaker and she herself declared that she was extremely proud of herself, because she never followed the rules. She never compromised, she always straight her way. A great example of courage.
Her first issue was in 1988, highlighting the beginning of a new vision in fashion, with a new style cover, clearing out all of that excess and having a very pure, white setting.
Listening to some of the interviews made to leading fashion artist, the one that capture my attention is the one of Peter Lindbergh, a fashion photographer that was really close to Franca and worked many times with her, he claimed: “I admire her sensibility and the way she is and her liberty, and she’s kind of very kind of free woman who can express herself and let other people express themselves”.

There are a lot of people that were risking their lives for the children of Jews. I’m going to be talking about one of the woman that helped save some children. The female artist I would like to write my week one journal about is Properzia de' Rossi. De Rossi was born 1490 in Bologna to a notary named Giovanni Rossi. I could not find any information about her mother or her upbringing. De Rossi face addition obstacles pursuing art due to no previous training, unlike her female counterparts whose fathers were artists and guided their hands. Later, she did have the privilege of learning from the Bolognese master engraver and artist Marc Antonio Raimondi, as well as studied at the University of Bologna. Simone Biles had the best Olympics because she won the most medals out of all the gymnasts that competed and she dedicates 300 days out of the whole year training. A movie was released in 2009 about her life in France and a young girl’s life trying to master the art of French cooking herself by cooking all the recipes in the cookbook in one year. Even though she passed away, her fame still lives on. She has not only influenced the way we see cooking, but also how her love of food swept the nation off their feet with their love for Julia Child.
Givenchy’s love for fashion grew when at the age of ten he attended the Pavillon d’ Elegance Paris Exposition. Once looking through Vogue magazine, he was inspired by Balenciaga men’s wear. He wanted to be a couturier and attended Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, to start a formal education in fashion. His designing inspirations came from Elsa Schiaparelli and Madam Gres’s work. His experience also came from working at the House of Piguet in Paris; this salon was known for its dramatic yet simple style and after, at the House of Lelong that was known for their high quality clothing. Those positions gave him knowledge on how to work with couture customers and gave him an opportunity to build strong relationships with them (Press, 2002).

Fashion plays an important role in the lives of billions all over the world; people, as part of a status craving society, turn to “fashion capitals” of the world for ways in which to dress and carry themselves. New York, Milan, and Paris are leaders among this fierce industry that the world lusts after. Fashion can speak volumes about ones personality, or also about the condition the world is in at the time. In France, fashion changed rapidly and feverously as the times changed.

Fashion started off as an art form, a way for the rich to show their social status with unique and innovative designs that only they could afford. It was a way to separate the social classes of the society. In this paper I will include the creators of haute couture, and how the following designers developed couture, as well as leading names in today’s ready-to-wear industry. The list is long, but I chose to focus on the three most important designers in the modern fashion industry.
