Four Corner Debate My criteria for making my decision: -Did contemporary society respond effectively? -What did people do to respond? -Has the problem been taken care of? -Has problems similar to these historical issues occurred today? I agree that contemporary society has done enough to respond to the legacies of historical globalization. Throughout history there has been many controversial issues. I believe that modern society has done well in response to these tragic. We have seen responses from many levels of society, from government and from citizens themselves. We have seen responses in many forms as well. Victims of crimes have seen compensation in the form of money, they have received apologies from government, and even from the people who have committed the crimes. Also those who were a part of these events have received punishment. I don’t believe that there is any more that we can do to respond to the legacies of historical globalization. There have been punishments for those who have done wrong. Also there have been many kind acts towards the people who have been harmed. Lisa Lowe’s introduction on the word “globalization” was interesting as it reminded me of the readings and lectures regarding colonization of the United States. Globalization is described conditions that increased economic, social, and political interdependence among people. The article allows for comparisons to be made with eighteenth century America. For example, the arrival of English colonists led to a change in the North American landscape. This could also be described as an invasion of native land as colonists felt the land belonged to them. Similarly, Globalization also mentions American invasion in the context of the conflicts against Afghanistan and Iraq. From what I have learned so far it appears that contemporary society has responded to the legacies of historical globalization, yet it hasn’t done quite enough to satisfy the concerned and affected. I would have to disagree to this statement, there are still some problems I believe needing to be addressed.

We have moved all the way westward and what there is to do is to globalize our nation and continue to help improve the nations that we help guide. We first need to make sure that we are practicing democracy, free trade, our values, freedom, and our beliefs. This is what it means to be an exceptional nation. Other nations look to us, and when we don’t respond accordingly or if we don’t practice what we preach, they will call us hypocrites.

Globalization is a series of social, economical, technological, cultural, and political changes that promote interdependence and growth. Globalization raises the standard of living in developing countries, spreads technological knowledge, and increases political liberation. (Harris 5-23) The main cause of globalization is influence from other, more developed, countries. Globalization is a historical process that results from human innovation and technological progress. The social effects of globalization are clearly illustrated in Peru. Once a third-world country filled with poverty and oppression, Peru is now transitioning into a developed nation. In Peru, globalization has raised the human development index, empowered women, and created a stronger country. (Leon 90-91)

It is used to describe the movement of people, information, commodities and financial tools across national borders which increase the interconnection between countries economically, politically, socially and culturally. The effects of globalisation on different fields are one of the main discussion topics of these days.
