Whether you believe it or not, this planet is not headed in the right direction. The key to surviving for any organism is adapting to the environment, and planet Earth could use some help in that department. There has been an exponential increase of pollution throughout the world, mainly due to the increase in fossil fuel burning, as well as the increase of associated air emissions. Burning fossil fuels is the most common way of creating energy. The main reason why fossil fuels are bad for our health is because burning them releases a number of extremely harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide and monoxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons. Their combination released into the atmosphere creates a nasty overhang we commonly refer to as smog. The most common gas that is released from the burning of fossil fuels is carbon dioxide, which is mainly known for trapping heat in the environment, and keeping the toxic chemicals trapped in the atmosphere as well. In the last 150 years, there has been a 25% increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Then question is how can we stop burning fossil fuels? Solar panels. Solar …show more content…
This could provide to be very risky and unreliable in states where the weather, such as Illinois, is constantly changing and often times raining. If the weather is always bad, this will just be a waste of money for the consumer, because this becomes a loss money as well as a loss of energy. This energy provides a lot to an average household, such as cooking, laundry, ect. So without it, a lot of basic necessities will be lost. The costs are also a very real factor in this process as well, because one whole system for a house is around an average of $10,000. That is a lot of money that a lot of people don’t
Fossil fuels are the basis of the world economy, providing electricity and transportation for many. It is undeniable that fossil fuels have raised the standard of living and uplifted impoverished communities by providing clean water and electricity. However, it is also a known fact that burning fossil fuels endangers the health of the public, contributes to climate change, and creates unsafe habitants for marine and wildlife. Burning fossil fuels introduces more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, warming the earth, melting glaciers and the polar ice caps, acidifying the oceans, and finally raising the sea levels. This dominos affect from burning fossil fuels will create an inhabitable earth. By subsidizing fossil fuel companies it allows for
Hydrogen lies in one of the copious replacements for gasoline. It is not an energy source such as oil, but an energy carrier that is produced instead of digging and finding it underground. Though replacing fossil fuels by hydrogen fuel cell is very hard and costs a great deal, for the most part, hydrogen fuel cell is a zero carbon emission fuel which highly reduces the carbon emissions that causes pandemic global warming. Hydrogen is very helpful for nature by cause of replacing fossil fuels with hydrogen fuel cells might end global warming once and for all.
Over the past years, planet Earth has been warming up. According to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, average temperatures have risen around1.4 degrees Fahrenheit/0.8 degrees Celsius since 1880. In fact, the rate of warming is increasing. It was reported by a number of climate studies that the last two decades were the hottest in 400 years. Global warming is a major threat to the planet. It is agreed that humans have caused most of the past century's warming by releasing greenhouse gasses, as we power our electronic lives. The “greenhouse effect” is performed when the gasses let out into Earth’s atmosphere trap heat from the sun. Through the burning of fossil fuels, humans are enhancing the greenhouse effect and increasing the temperatures of the planet. Although the greenhouse effect is what keeps the planet warm, thereby supporting life, too much would also result in severe issues. Now, with the increasing rate of greenhouse gases emissions, frozen glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, and wildlife is scrambling to keep up with the fast pace. Above that, weather can also become more and more extreme. Something has to be done.
Gloria Reuben once stated, “Mother Nature's mercy and forgiveness have run dry, as we ceaselessly abuse her and take her for granted in order for us to continue our addiction to using fossil fuels.” Reuben is suggesting that the addiction to burning fossil fuels abuses nature consistently and humans take our natural resources for granted. The world has a heavy dependency upon fossil fuels such as oil, methane, coal, gas and petroleum. As population and industry grows and reliance on these non-renewable energy sources multiplies, how are fossil fuels negatively impacting Earth? The adverse effects of fossil fuels is staggering. Fossil fuels are responsible for human fatalities, gargantuan environmental risks and environmental hazards. Stepping toward renewable energy resources and cutting fossil fuel emissions creates a greener, cleaner and safer planet for all.
Today 80% of the energy we use comes from fossil fuels and about 1% comes from solar energy, which is not such a bright idea since nonrenewable resources, such as oil, coal, and gas, are limited (Eia 1). Most significant uses of coal are in steel production, electricity, cement manufacturing, and as a liquid fuel. Solar energy is one of the least used energy sources we have access to in the world; it is also one our mother Earth is relying on to save the nonrenewable fuels, such as fossil fuels. Solar energy is a very useful resource that many of us do not take advantage of because of the limited amount of information we know about it. Cooking coal, also known as metallurgical coal, is used for steel production as well. Coal comes from very
The energy industry provides many different resource options for consumers to choose. Two main markets within this industry exist: conventional energy and alternative energy. Conventional forms of energy never suffer from low demand because of consumer’s familiarity with these resources. Alternative energy, on the other hand, is still a growing market. The United States government shows great interest in adapting to a lifestyle that uses these forms of energies by passing acts, creating energy policies, and subsidization to support the alternative energy market. But the conventional energy market still remains prevalent in the country. A government model of utilizing alternative resources needs to occur for the energy market to thrive amongst
An energy source that the electrical stove would use is coal. Coal is a non-renewable energy source, meaning that there is only a limited supply of it left (150,043 days left before we run out). Coal plays a very large part in electricity generation. Iin fact, coal power plants create 41% of global electricity. Coal has a process before electricity can be made. Coal is first burneed, which converts water into steam. That steam pushes a turbine, which is connected to electricity generators which then generate electricity. After this process happens the steam returns to be heated again. This dosen’t sound like a dangerous procedure, or that it might have any impacts, but the matter of the fact is that it does. Over 125,000 tons of ash and 193,00
Every day the world we live in dies a little more. By this I mean the physical world is gradually being damaged by the way we treat it. We need to start looking at the kind of environment we are creating and decide if it is a place that we want our children and the future generations to have to suffer though. If your answer to the previous scenario is no then you should really consider what we can do to make the future a better place. One of the best ways that I can think of is by focusing on the advancements of green energy resources. By doing this we will not only reduce pollution produced by burring fossil fuels but mainly we will be able to reduce the amount of pollution produced from the gathering of them though means like fracking.
With every passing day our planet is slowly becoming contaminated by the fuels we use and the green house gases they emit. This damage can never be reversed and will continue to harm our planet; however there are many systems of alternative energy that could be implemented in order to reduce this damage. This is why I believe that our government should endorse alternative energy and set regulations in order to promote the use of alternative energy.
The 21st century is heavily reliant on burning of fossil fuels, from fueling airplanes, to cars, all the way down to factories. Although the burning of these fuels is helping us advance, it is also harming the planet in ways that no one can imagine. With the planet using over 82.4 million barrels of fossil fuels being used each and every day, there is a need for change, fast. Society must adapt and change in order to successfully preserve the planet, because as of now it is our only home. You might be thinking how one might solve the issue at hand, this is quite simple actually.
Do you ever think about how our world might deplete our coal or oil resources? Fossil fuels, which are made of coal or natural gas, and oil have all supplied a majority of our energy. Fossil fuels burn carbon fuels such as; oil, coal, and gas to create steam to have large turbines generate electricity. Fossil fuels provided more than 80% of America’s energy in 2017. Those sources have been providing our country since the industrial revolution, but their production, limitation, and use have significant health and environmental impacts, environmental degradation, and global warming. Wind power in Illinois provided 5.7% of the state's electrical power in 2016. The issue I focused on resolving was finding renewable ways of generating
Over the last two centuries, humanity has become increasingly reliant on fossil fuels. Over that time, the consequences of constantly burning fossil fuels have accumulated into a threat to industrialized cities. The burning of fossil fuels causes acid rain to shower on cities and ecosystems around the world, tormenting their inhabitants. The increasingly deadly pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels has caused the deaths of many people around the world by causing respiratory problems. Not only has the pollution worsened, but the supply of fossil fuels is not limitless – as humanity’s reliance increases the supply decreases, and that is all the more reason to break humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels. Fossil fuels should be replaced with cleaner alternatives because fossil fuels cause environmental hazards, are non-renewable, and are detrimental to human health.
The three fossil fuels- coal, crude oil, and gas slowly formed over millions of years. These days, we use fossil fuels to power everything- homes, buildings, cars, computers, lights, etc. However, fossil fuels deposits will run out soon, which is a huge problem. Extracting, transporting, and burning fossil fuels are dangerous. There are also many negative biological and environmental impacts that result from the use of fossil fuels, such as ocean acidification, groundwater contamination, land subsidence, oil spills, and global warming. Therefore, we should be trying to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and explore alternative energy sources such as wind energy, hydroelectricity, and solar energy instead. Our world depends on fossil fuels, but they can also hurt us. Fossil fuels are both a blessing and a curse.
People can also reduce the use of fossil fuels by doing simple things for instance switching off lights and appliances when leaving the room. Walking or cycling instead of driving a car or use public transport for maybe longer journeys. Little things like this will make a big difference, making our planet a better place.
For years man has relied on energy in order to be successful in life. The industrial revolution relied on coal for the new inventions brought into the world. Life as has never been the same since then. However since that time, there has been little done to improve on energy efficiency and humans still primarily rely on fossil fuels for energy. For over a hundred years the Earth has become more polluted and dirtier than ever before. Now, with new, innovative technology there is an opportunity to change that and to rely on renewable, cleaner sources of energy. The main source of energy for the world should be alternative energy instead of energy from fossil fuels.
