I decided to sign up for forensic nursing because I previously wanted to become a member of law enforcement. As I was graduating high school I switched my interest to nursing. I thought this class would provide a combination of my interests by merging nursing and law enforcement in a unique way. Another reason I was decided to take this class was to learn how to advocate for a victim of rape. I am under the impression most rapes are not reported, so I would like to learn what to do if I encounter a victim of rape in the future. For this assignment I was able to interview Regina Bowman RN, BSN. Her current position is that of the Director of Medical Surgical Nursing. Her position places her over top of seven nursing units between two facilities. Regina graduated from the Mercer Medical School of Nursing in 1979 with her diploma in nursing. The Mercer medical school of nursing is still in operation although it has been renamed the Capital Health School of Nursing. Her return to school started after graduation. She enrolled at Mercer County Community College to obtain her Associates. Secondly she attended La Salle University and received her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 2003. Lastly she is currently enrolled at the Thomas Edison State University, and has a prospective graduation of 2011 with her Masters Degree in Nursing. Regina has work in many clinical jobs, both in and out the hospital. Initially she began her nursing carrier as a medical surgical nurse shortly after graduation. After she gained experience she worked in the emergency room only to return to med-surge as an assistant manager. Subsequently the unit in which she worked closed and Regina was placed in an outpatient setting managing hospital owned physician groups. This position leads to her return as the manager of 7 East a general medical unit. This position eventually gave her the opportunity to hold her current position as a hospital director.

What I really enjoy about the meeting is that everyone can address his/her concerns without feeling afraid and intimidated. For my informational interview I spoke with a nurse who has experience working on a medical surgical unit in a hospital setting. She has been a nurse for 10 years. She also has her bachelors degree in nursing. For this assignment I had the pleasure sitting down with Emily Petermeier and getting an insight on what the real nursing world is like. Emily graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in May 2015, and got a job at Fairview East Bank Hospital. This interview really helped me understand what it is like to be a new nurse and the dedication that I have to have going through nursing school and throughout my career. In the interview you will see the perspective of Emily’s endeavors after college and insight for future nurses or nursing students.
Let me start off first by thanking our friends and family for being here to join us tonight for this momentous occasion. Forensic pathologists are the people who determine the cause and time of death if the deceased person died under suspicious circumstances, whether they be violent or not. They determine if the death was accidental, a homicide, natural, a suicide, or even if the cause of death was unknown. They do this by studying said victim’s medical history, evaluating the crime scene for evidence, studying the body for any clues, and performing an autopsy. After determining the cause, time, and the manner in which the victim died, forensic pathologists make a written report on the victim and sometimes testify in court to report their findings.
As you can see registered nurses are an important part of the health care system today. Risking their health and well-being for that of other people. Just remember how much they’ve helped you over time, whether it be curing a simple illness or mending a broken bone. Next time you see a nurse why not thank them for everything they have done. After doing research on this career I have decided that I am still interested and would like to pursue a career in this field.
...he reality of the real world and that there are tough situations a nurse has to face, like not being able to better a person who is in need. I found out things I never knew about a nurse. She really helped me understand that to be a nurse one really needs to be dedicated to the patients they are seeing. I realized on that day that a nurse is more than just a job. I want to study this occupation as I attend college and hopefully continue on to the next steps on fully becoming a nurse practitioner. I think it will benefit me in all the ways that I saw her benefit her patients. After researching and learning all new information about this occupation I now know that a NP is a worthy and much needed job in our country and I know that given the opportunity and time I can achieve all the goals I am going to set in my future in order to be a certified nurse practitioner.
I was then introduced to a patient who was in isolation. Her legs were immovable and were crossed in a very uncomfortable position. I wish I could’ve done something so that her legs could be in a more comfortable position, but all I could do was observe and get her a cup of ice cold water to drink. During this clinical observation, I didn’t get to see much but overall, it was a good experience. It made me realize what it was like to be in a hospital setting and what it meant to be a nurse. Seeing how the patients were still able to smile through all the pain they went through, it made me want to become a nurse even more because I would also like to make my patients happy. If I could do one thing differently during this clinical observation, I wish I didn’t ask my senior nurse about what externships she took and instead, I wished I asked her more questions about the patients in order to gain more information about
Throughout my final ten weeks at my placement, I have grown and overcome so many obstacles. I have accomplished a wide range of skills since the beginning and have been improving on them as I gained experience. At my placement as a student nurse, I have gained a lot of confidence, skills, knowledge and experiences that have helped me act and work in a professional way. All the experiences I have had during the ten weeks of my student years have helped me in shaping me into a professional.
Forensic Psychology, which is occasionally referred to as Legal Psychology, originally made its debut in the late 1800’s. A Harvard Professor, Professor Munsterberg, introduced the idea of psychology and law with his book, On the Witness Stand in 1908.
