In football, many people consider the quarterback as the most important and influential position on the field. Although there are other players who are competing, none of them individually can cause as much success or stress as the quarterback. Not all quarterbacks play the position the same way. Some are stationary in the pocket and others are able to escape pass rushers. There exist five groups that combine physical talent and pass delivery that quarterbacks can be categorized in: they are pocket passers, mobile-passers, scramblers, gunslingers and game-managers. The first style is the pocket passer, a quarter back with this style sometimes lacks the physical attributes that can be considered athletic. Unlike pocket passers who rely on their arm strength and pre snap preparation for success, scramblers rely on their legs and improvisation to make plays. Offensive linemen can only block for so long, pass rushers get pass them and have a clear path to the quarterback. Scrambling quarterbacks use their talents to elude would-be tacklers and proceed up field. Quarterbacks with this style are very capable of throwing the ball, however for reasons unexplained they prefer to run. Scrambling quarterbacks are more likely to be injured, due to the amount of hits they receive once downfield. Within the pocket quarterbacks are protected by rules that regulate how they can be hit. Once the quarterback runs beyond the line of scrimmage, he will be considered a runner, and will be subjected to the full obligations of a defender.
