Rapid Increase in population is putting pressure on agriculture to provide more quantity of food. Along with the production of food, wastage of food is also accompanied. Now days food industry is facing a lot of pressure to prove that their ongoing processes to process raw material into valuable product, management and disposal of food waste is environmental friendly. This paper gives an overview of food waste management. It emphasis on the various issues and concerns of food waste, along with Technological Innovations involved in managing of food waste. It is also well known sector to provide job opportunities to various rural and poor population in India. Processing of food is conversion of raw ingredients directly into food or food related forms. For example Corn Starch Industry process corn to give by products like starch, Oil etc. Cornel kernel obtained after processing is rich in carbohydrates, proteins, oil and fibre with some traces of minerals.
India we have different food processing industries like Dairy, Fruits & Vegetables, Grains & Cereals, Corn Starch, Tannery industry etc. No Doubt that these food processing industries are very beneficial to human population but there are also various challenges faced by these industries. These challenges can be segregated in terms of profitability of the industries and also challenges there come across to ensure that the procedures adopted within the industry whether in collection, treatment and disposal of waste are environmental friendly or not.

Pollution from Food Processing Industries: The generation of solid waste or waste water cause environmental pollution. Disposal of these waste are harmful for the land, water in which they are disposed of because they deteriorate the physico-chemical properties of soil as well as water making it undesirable for consumption and growth of plants. Along with this the waste also release harmful gases which pollute the air.
4. Technological Innovations: The lack of technical equipment’s for the management and treatment of solid waste and waste water is major challenge and concerns of the food processing industries. The use of technical instrument can enhance their treatment and will reduce waste generation too.
The above mentioned issues related to food processing industry can be solved by Effective Solid Waste Management (ISWM) which is the combination of appropriate selection and application of technologies, techniques, set of rules & regulation along with management programmes to obtain effective waste management.
