Some preservatives have positive effects on food as they preserve it for a lot longer. However, they also have negative effects on one’s health. However, without food preservatives, microorganisms, insects, enzymes and physical changes can cause fresh foods to become extremely susceptible to contamination and therefore the food deteriorates quickly.
In table 1, it shows the amount of chemical food preservatives that are in cereal products and the preservation method. Thirteen foods were examined and overall, it showed that five of the thirteen contained food preservatives and eight contained no food preservatives. This shows that less food preservatives are used in carbohydrate products, showing that these certain foods can last longer without food preservatives. In figure 1 it also shows that less chemical food preservatives are used in cereal products.
In table 2, it shows the amount of chemical food preservatives found in dairy products. Thirteen foods were examined from this certain food group. After careful examination of each food, it showed overall that seven out of the thirteen food products contained chemical preservatives and six of the thirteen contained none.
