“The Lottery” Socratic The thematic idea of the story "The Lottery" is following tradition is dangerous. This is because when that when followed, the tradition results in death. This is shown as every year, one person dies due to the township people blindly following the tradition of a lottery. The tradition also leads to family drama as the family members of the chosen person are forced to kill them as those are the rules of the tradition. If they didn't blindly follow the tradition the town could possibly run more successful with a more happy and less stressed population.
