Methods: Sample: Study population will be consisted of undergraduate student volunteers who will participate in the fall session of Fit Families for Life. Recruitment: “Fit Families for Life” is a life style intervention program that is directed by Peter Morelli, MD of Columbia University and Sharon Martino, PT, PhD, of Stony Brook University. This program has a website and also flyers are distributed before the start of each session. As this program is managed by a faculty member of Stony Brook University so other health sciences faculty members also advertise about this program through emails so that more students are aware about it. Students have to attend an orientation before the start so that they can get an idea of the program and about their roles. Volunteer students will be informed about concepts of service learning at the orientation day and focus group interviews. …show more content…

Schmiede in his paper ,” Using Focus Groups in Service-Learning: Implications for Practice and Research”, said that, “Focus groups have the potential to provide an effective way to increase reflection and facilitate learning in the service-learning context. Analysis of focus group transcripts allows service-learning faculty and coordinators to gain insight into a group's level of critical thinking in the context of a particular issue; or if data are separated into individual responses then individuals' levels of critical thinking can be analyzed”. The data collected by using focus group can be utilized to inform the objectives and practices of course and addresses any gaps in the service
