Methods: Sample: Study population will be consisted of undergraduate student volunteers who will participate in the fall session of Fit Families for Life. Recruitment: “Fit Families for Life” is a life style intervention program that is directed by Peter Morelli, MD of Columbia University and Sharon Martino, PT, PhD, of Stony Brook University. This program has a website and also flyers are distributed before the start of each session. As this program is managed by a faculty member of Stony Brook University so other health sciences faculty members also advertise about this program through emails so that more students are aware about it. Students have to attend an orientation before the start so that they can get an idea of the program and about their roles. The most compelling data that we have shows the change in our American family structure. Day there are alarming number of children with mental disorders and children being raised in single parent homes has increased. In both areas it is shown that we need more preventive care (Petersmeyer 1989). Other statistics are equally troubling: each day in the United States, 3,600 students drop out of high school, and 2,700 unwed teenage girls get pregnant (Petersmeyer 1989). As a society we have a responsibility to our youth to help them become strong adults. My grandmother was always telling me that it takes more then the immediate family to raise a child well, if a child is to be rear well it takes a whole community contribution.

A service user is defined as “patients, carer’s and the public” (Smith et al., 2008, p. 298). The group of nursing students were to complete a questionnaire before and after they partook in their studies (Blackhall et al., 2012). This questionnaire before they started studying found that students based their judgement towards people with mental illness positively and based off their personal encounters (Blackhall et al., 2012). Three years later another questionnaire was given to the same students which found common themes (Blackhall et al, 2012). The first theme was that “personal knowledge or experience continued to inform attitudes towards mental illness” (Blackhall et al., 2012, p. 24). The second theme was “most of those who attended service user-led sessions found it was effective in challenging their beliefs and attitudes about mental health” (Blackhall et al., 2012, p. 24). Healthy living is a huge step in life, especially in this day and age. This whole course focuses on having healthy lifestyle, making the changes necessary to maintain one, and gives the learner step-by-step instructions of where to start. There are multiple reasons why someone should make a behavior change. Some could include health reasons, to support family members, or some decide to make the change because he or she wants to live healthy. Personally, my family affects a lot of the decisions in my life. Growing up, I was used to taking care of my older sister and I was used to changing my diet to fit what plan my mom had for the week. Health practices are those activities performed by individuals or families as a whole to promote health and prevent diseases. The relationship between members of family influences the understanding of behavior, which is demonstrated in family’s structural, functional, communicational, and developmental patterns (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2003; Bonell et al., 2003).Within families, children and adults are nurtured and taught about health values by word and by example, and it is within families that members first learn to make choices to promote health (Edelman & Mandle, 2010, p. 172).
