Fire outbreak is not uncommon, and can leave anyone in a vulnerable situation. If proper care and preventive measures are not taken to eliminate or minimize spreading of fire, even a minor fire eruption can be devastating. Mitigating the redundant effects of potentially destructive fires involve a lot of thoughtfulness as in what kind of fire protection system products/systems should be used. Along with fire protective products, fire suppression products are also important for maximum safety. Selection of appropriate fire protective products or systems depends on the types of potential fire hazard for any given situation. After assessment, the fire hazards are classified using code letters by the jurisdiction of a country. For constructing structures, whether land-based or offshore construction, the owner/builder has to follow the local building code and fire code as specified by the concerned authorities. Moreover, both passive fire protection (http://www.lafgroup.com/pages/passiveFireProtectionSystems.asp ) and active fire protection means are implemented for ensuring increased safety of the structure as well as occupants. Various passive fire protection systems are utilized during the construction of a structure or building. Right from construction of wall, bulkheads, ceilings of concrete to creating systems for timber roof or floors, horizontal or vertical fire barriers, if appropriate products and construction methodologies are used it can provide excellent protection against fire. When thinking of fire protection systems for buildings, only one name comes to mind – LAF Group (www.lafgroup.com/), leading specialist manufacturer and installer of elements of passive fire protection systems for buildings in Australia. The most pressing issue facing Detroit, in regard to fire, is the steady amount of burning vacant or delipidated buildings, and second to that is the high rate of home fires. For the purposes of this project, the capabilities of

The attacks of September 11 were some of the worst ever experienced in the history of the United States. These attacks generated a widespread feeling of insecurity and uncertainty throughout America, compelling the government to revise safety measures and protocol pertaining to the wellbeing of the United States. However, some aspects of security under modification, such as building codes, are being questioned by many. The collapse of the twin towers, due to the impact from the airplanes, spurred a movement focused on strengthening the integrity of skyscrapers and other high-rise buildings throughout the United States. Though the terrorist attacks proved to be a tremendous tragedy, the application of measures this great is not seen as a proven necessity. The circumstances of the incident proved to be so extraordinary that dramatic modifications to the structure of building should not take place because of such an event. Therefore, the building codes of skyscrapers should not be changed due to the terrorist attacks of September 11.

Even though his firm was only required to do civil engineering work, Giffels concluded that there was an unacceptable risk to the firefighters who would use the facility with the unresolved issues, so he began contacting other firms with experience handling similar contract projects, part of exercising due care to ensure they could enhance safety. The training facility met the minimum requirements of the law, but Giffels felt that it would be shirking the responsibility his firm has to the public by not callin...
This research topic is originated from my experience in working in the fire service since nineteen ninety seven. In the last sixteen years I have moved up the ranks from probationary fire fighter to fire lieutenant. I am currently hold the rank of fire lieutenant. This topic is very important to me because one day at work I can be the Incident Commander on a incident, to the o...
Flame retardants refer to a class of several chemicals that are used to slow or prevent the ignition or growth of fires. A variation of different chemicals, with diverse properties and structures, are combined in different ways to suit the different types of materials to make them fire-resistant without interfering with their intended use or performance. Since the 1970’s, FRs have been and still are widely added or applied to a big variety of major consumer products.
Fire extinguishers are portable fire equipment which plays a vital role in any place since there are under circumstances that fire fighters are not absolutely essential wherein extinguishers are capable to fight the fire.
...n most part if steel were to be used in a Type I structure, it would be to reinforce the concrete because concrete is strong in compressive strength but weak in tensil strength. If there is any exposed steel, it is fire proofed with a fire retardant. Mainly the fire hazards that firefighters have to face in these structures are usually because of human error during the construction of the buildings or when occupants are occupying the building. In a construction sites welding, cutting, plumber’s torches, electrical wiring, and heaters all pose a fire hazard. The other risk of this type of building would be of a collapse of the concrete walls or floors during construction.

Authorities have attempted to implement codes or regulations, but that has proved to be very difficult tasks becasue there are many variables that effect the dynamic response of buildings. One way to try to avoid disaster is to evaluate seismic risk is to look at a buildings hazards, exposure, vulnerability, and location. Hazards are, for example, landslides ad soil type. Exposure is a building's occupancy and function. Vulnerability is the expected performance of a building's system, and location is how often earthquakes occur in the area. (Lagorio)
Wildfires are catastrophic disasters that destroy everything in their path. “A wildfire (also known as forest fire, grass fire, vegetation fire, etc) is an uncontrolled fire often occurring in wild land areas, but which can also consume houses or agricultural resources.” (Wildfire.) The causes of wildfires are mostly intentional, negligence or accidents and natural causes. Wildfires have three distinct phases: Initiation, propagation, and extinction. This phenomenon affects our ecosystem, such as air and earth. In addition, people who witness this kind of catastrophe in the lower cases they lose belongings as houses or cars, but they can also lose their lives. There are many campaigns that help prevent these phenomena, but they need the help of the entire community. It is very important take care of not cause an accident. Wildfire is a phenomenon very common on these days causing a terrible damage to our environment and we have to prevent its expansion through our help, cooperation and prudence...
Creating the awareness among the students helps them on the various ways to avoid fires. If possible students are advised to ensure that all the fire alarms and extinguishers are in working conditions at all times. They should also be careful and alert when using any appliance that is likely to cause a fire and avoid using anything that is prohibited in the rooms.
