My feelings on an appropriate balance between being financially successful and the need to serve others by giving back; well that thought has been ingrained in me since childhood. My father has always taught me that those who have the means to do so; when helping others, are blessing themselves. For when you help others, the good deed will always return to you. In turn I take his teachings in this way, in the most basic form, what goes around comes around. Perhaps it sounds cliché; but when you think of it, it’s just like the circle of life. The world will continue to rotate, and there must always be people, who will help some one less fortunate; some one who now has a better chance to succeed. As there are many who deserve a chance at success.
Even if I become financially successful in life, that is not the only reason to help others. For me being financially successful is a milestone in life; however, many people become a great success with the help from others. Once they reach the status they desire, it’s as if they forget who they were or the path from which they began. In my view, the reason for helping others, is out of the goodness of your heart. The feeling that a person gets from doing onto others is irreplaceable; the ability to help another individual along their path of success. Regardless of the belief in what you do unto others returns to you; the willingness to help others really comes from the goodness of the heart.
As for my plans of being financially successful; my mind is open to many options. I want to begin by achieving an associates in criminal justice, or business from Essex County Community College. I then plan to continue to a four year school, Rutgers, to achieve a bachelors in bus...

In conclusion, I would like to say what an honor it would be, to be awarded the scholarship from The Smith Companies. The scholarship in question, would certainly help me in accomplishing my education, which will in turn put me in the right path towards success. I desire to succeed in life, and my education is the first step. After putting in the hard work it takes at the university level, the hard work of real business begins. I will challenge both endeavors the way two rams do, when they go head to head to show dominance. Once I achieve success, I will not be one of those people who forget where they began. In a world where every individual desires to acquire money, prosper, and make a life for themselves nevertheless no part of my being aspires any of it. My life's work wants nothing more than to help other people because at the end of the day, my long list of people I have helped will be worth more than your money. The way I grew up, I would have been the same way as everyone else, but it was with the experiences I have gone through along with my favorite movie, book, quote, historical figure, and my very own personal hero which all single handedly helped mold me to the person I am glad to be today.

There has always been a predominant belief in my household that it is important to help others- whether it be volunteering at a food pantry or just keep an elderly neighbor company when no one else is around to do so. The main takeaway from this was that one couldn’t receive good in their life if they never gave any. I have been more eager to follow this through, not necessarily in the spirit of receiving some good in return, but because it gave me a good feeling to know that I was impacting someone’s life in a positive manner. I wanted to be able to foster this feeling and incorporate it into my everyday life, so I could carry that feeling with me wherever I go.
With all of the downfalls that I have experienced in my academic and personal life, a college education will make it possible for me to continue my journey into becoming a prestigious corporate lawyer. I have the drive for success and I am certain that with this scholarship I will be able to pay off my debt and help my mother with her own educational goals. I was content that I was able to encourage her to attend school and I am most fortunate to be given an opportunity to help both her and myself achieve our ultimate goals for the near future.
There are many people around the world who are in need of altruistic people in their lives. Some long for help, other loathe it. Either way, since we have been given so much and others have so little, it is our job to help provide for those people. It is our job to make sure that we are not being selfish and taking more than we need instead of spreading the wealth throughout the impoverished world. Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
If we open our lives and give service to those less fortunate than ourselves, we allow our hearts to receive immeasurable happiness. When we sacrifice our time to help someone in need, whether it is a great or small need, we become a part of their life and can help alleviate heavy burdens. Making time to help people in need creates opportunities for us to develop new and lasting relationships. Serving our fellowmen allows the best in each of us to shine through and we can become examples to our children.
What is the value of a life? Is it how long you live, what you accomplish during your lifetime, or things you acquire? The ethics and moral reasoning behind this simple question does wealth equate to happiness? This has been asked many times and the debate from both sides has great points and emphasis, but I would like to talk about those who seem to be thrown on the back burner the needy. Now if you were to hear the word needy many different categories come to mind homeless, unemployed, sick, and the underprivileged. Each sector is different in terms of the needs and what is asked to help them: however they stand together in regards to some type of assistance to help them attain and maintain simple everyday tasks in their lives.
What would the world come to if people did not strive to help themselves? Would more be accomplished or nothing at all? When is helping oneself self-interest, and when is it rude and selfish? How far does one have to go to not be selfish? In order to be not selfish, must a person spent all their time giving to others? Is in a way giving to others even show selfishness? If that is true is it possible to end selfishness? These questions do not have straight answers, and probably never will. Yet, to understand the importance of self-interest it is important to understand my opinion of the answers to these questions.
St. Paul writes in Philippians 2: 3-4, “Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” As I reflect on the community service that I have done this year, I am understanding more about how important this verse is. In life, success and riches can lead one to value oneself above others and become increasingly selfish. However, this is not the road one should take. God makes it clear in his Word that to whom much is given, much is required. Each man is called to utilize the gifts he has been blessed with, to benefit the lives of those around him. Money and Happiness are two things that we have all given a lot thought. We put lots of effort into these two things either trying to earn them or trying to increase them. The connection we make between money and happiness is strange because they are two very different concepts. Money is tangible, you can quantify it, and know exactly how much of it you have at any given time. Happiness, on the other hand, is subjective, elusive, has different meanings for different people and despite the efforts of behavioral scientist and psychologist alike, there is no definitive way to measure happiness. In other word, counting happiness is much more difficult than counting dollar bills. How can we possibly make this connection? Well, money, specifically in large quantity, allows for the freedom to do and have anything you want. And in simplest term, happiness can be thought of as life satisfaction and enjoyment. So wouldn’t it make sense that the ability to do everything you desire, result in greater satisfaction with your life.
