The financial aid this scholarship offers will alleviate a portion of the financial burden I will face. As a child of a single mother, I have always experienced financial struggle. From a young age my mother encouraged me to understand the value of education. She instilled in me the importance of hard work and perseverance to achieve my goals. She nursed my love for reading and knowledge therefore, I would be able to achieve what she could not – a masters. Since I have become an adult I fully understand the magnitude of the sacrifices my mother has done for me. However, while my mother gave up a great deal of her life for me she never did forego her education. This knowledge has driven me to strive to always do the best of my ability. I aspire to follow in my mother’s footsteps and aim to become as educated as I possibly can be in my field of work as well as, life. This scholarship impacts my postgraduate experience greatly since it will allow me to apply myself to the best of my ability. Up to this point I have been a recipient of the higher education grant scheme which has given me the freedom to work minimal hours during semester. The financial aid this scholarship offers will provide me the same freedom that will enable me to continue to seize advantage of every opportunity for my education.
I have always taken advantage of all opportunities offered to me in life not just for education. When offered with the opportunity to travel to Ghana in West Africa for six months to work as a teacher I jumped at the chance.
