Final Course Reflection Reflecting back on my short time here at Iowa State I have met many new people, learned a great deal about the campus, myself, and the Agricultural Business program. In college I have experienced many firsts. I moved away from home for the first time. I started my first day of college classes, and survived my first round of college exams. I joined clubs, met lots of new individuals, and got acquainted with life at Iowa State. Throughout my time at Iowa State I was lucky enough to be part of a great major that focuses on welcoming freshman. I have attended monthly meetings and learned how one becomes a member, officer, and gets on a committee. I also met many new people at these meetings and enjoy getting to know new individuals. As I continue my education at Iowa State I feel prepared and know what classes I plan on taking each semester thanks to my four year plan. Without this assignment I would’ve been lost and not known what classes to take. Completing my four year plan helped me prepare myself for the future and know exactly what classes I need to take before graduating. One of my favorite activities in Econ 110 was attending the apple orchard. It was a great way to get away for awhile and have fun with my friends. We got to tour the orchard and enjoy some delicious treats, as well as have fun wondering around and trying new things. I didn’t really know what to expect beforehand, but it was definitely not let down. Another great experience was visiting another major for a day. During this time I was able to visit another department in which I’m interested in and I also got to see how lucky I am to be part of a great major. “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand” (24). Life has ups and downs and it is bound to happen to everyone. Whether it is a death in a family to getting fired. But there is one thing you can do to make your life interesting.
I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Through this class I have grown much as a writer but there is still more I can learn.
Summer term 2016 was the very first time I was considered a college student who attended Florida International University or any university for that matter. I was nervous, intimidated by the drastic changes that were about to occur in my life. As a first semester freshman I did not know what the college life held for me and did not want to. I was closed off from my surroundings and felt comfortable going from home to school and back home. It was convenient not having to be involved in all of these extracurricular activities and clubs. I have trained for the past four years to gain muscle mass so that I can enter bodybuilding competitions and win them. I have not entered any competition yet but I will be competing when my body-weight reaches 80kg, 10% body fat. But right now the goal is to gain muscle mass. It has been really tough eating clean and working hard in the gym day-in day-out. Initially, it was difficult to figure out what foods to eat and what was good for my digestive system and how many calories I was consuming each day. I ignored this tracking process for the first two years but after reading articles on the internet about the importance of tracking my workouts as well as my daily Macronutrient intake, I started the tracking process. This process really helped me in knowing my body.

Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Over the four years that I have spent at Good Counsel, I became part of many activities. Each helping me evolve as a person and become stronger yet. Simple lists could be made of every activity that I have ever been involved in but it could never express to a person what I have learned and how it helped me to grow. Every environmental club, science club, political science club, service work, and S.A.D.D. club I was part of had a very special message to deliver to me. Whether the message was one of responsibility, or a life lesson, I grew from it. The Political Science club opened me to many new experiences. It allowed me the chance to attend the Model U.N., where I was asked to address today's top world issues. This club was very beneficial to me because I was exposed to topics and ideas that I had not previously been able to discuss or learn about in a classroom situation. The science club allowed for me to experience extra educational situations as well. I took part in a hovercraft competition, which was very educational while also allowing me the chance to work with others for a common goal.
As a byproduct of the change in college culture, it will create a “friendlier” environment for first generation. Students need to feel safe rather than out of place. Additionally, prestigious institutions need to take initiative to create new programs that will make college a painless transition for first generation students by implementing new policies such as mentors or clubs. As many colleges and universities have not taken the initiative to help first-generation students, North Carolina State University is one of the few exceptions. As a fellow first generation college student at North Carolina State University, I have reaped many benefits from the different organizations they have around campus. In the Poole College of Management, I was assigned a professional mentor in my future line of work that made the transition into college a better experience for me. After listening to his forums, I was able to use the skills I had learnt from my parents and apply it to college and my study habits benefiting me in countless possibilities. The most fulfilling or rewarding experience I have had as a college student here at USC has simply been having the opportunity to be surrounded by motivated students, professors, and advisors that have encouraged me to expand my horizons and better myself. Without the Honors College, I would have never met and bonded with my current roommates or any of my other college friends, who push me to try new things and work harder every day. The Honors classes I have been enrolled in have provided me with the opportunity to interact with students who are passionate about what they are studying. Research from the University of California San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography said that species in the ocean consume a projected 12,000 to 24,000 tons of plastic every year in the Pacific Ocean (Nall, 2014). Pollution of recyclable materials in the oceans is one of the leading causes of why some marine species are nearing extinction. Many authors of articles and books analyzing this topic tend to agree that pollution of our oceans is a problem. The future of this problem is where their ideas tend to differ. The following four literature reviews attempt to demonstrate and support my belief that pollution is getting worse in the ocean and more marine life ecosystems are being affected, but there are things that we as humans can do to change this. Imagine a world where we didn’t have to constantly worry about the vicious cycle of humans affecting animals and then animals in turn affecting us through consumption.
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
