Today at CJN network we have a crisis in what to publish first on our broadcast. As news director, I want to touch on the subject of the local park closing 3 days a week to save currency when the first segment opens. We also have to focus on the gloomy subject of losing a major superstar today. Our role of being a multimillion dollar media outlet is to give the people what they want. I understand that local news is important, but our ratings could increase substantial if we cover the entire tragedy on death. Although, I do believe that the local park closing for 3 days will affect mostly women and children, I do not see a need to continue hours of coverage over this. We will state a link to our website for more detailed information on the park closings with dates and times for our views to relate to. This link will be discussed and shown when the story goes live on television. It is our role as well-known news cast to deliver correct information to our viewers. We have many reporters on the story 24 hours to keep us up-to-date, and provide facts to the viewers. If a there is a major break in the story we do have and will enforce our right to break into other programs for updates. Again, we must stick to the facts. This will allow the viewers to understand what is taking place at all times. All information from both stories will be on our website. It is very important that we keep all links modern. If anyone finds any errors on the site or incorrect, misleading information, please contact me immediately, because with the website we are able to fix any mistakes straightaway and not have any misleading biased information on there. The Gammy Bird newspaper always had violence in it such as the car wrecks, sexual assaults, thefts etc. There would never be any good news in their newspaper and that is what Quoyle wanted and he said how he felt towards the situation and that was a big step for him because he usually lets others make their guidelines for him. Now the newspaper can have good news in it such as a Lifestyle section for people to enjoy reading and it was all because of Quoyle putting his mind, effort and courage into it.
In “Reporting the News” by George C. Edwards III, Martin P. Wattenberg, and Robert L. Lineberry, the main idea is how the media determines what to air, where to get said stories that will air, how the media presents the news, and the medias effect on the general public. “Reporting The News” is a very strong and detailed article. The authors’ purpose is to inform the readers of what goes on in the news media. This can be inferred by the authors’ tone. The authors’ overall tone is critical of the topics that are covered. The tone can be determined by the authors’ strong use of transitions, specific examples, and phrases or words that indicate analysis. Just like other media, such as internet, television, movie or even music first appears, video game also has attracted more and more attention. The questions about the negative impact of video games on people, especially adolescent and children have become a very serious concern, especially the violence content of video games.
The first reason video games are an issue is that many video games made today possess content that many people would consider to be obscene. The term obscene covers violence, profanity, and sexual images (obviously). Such videogames are usually branded with the M (mature audiences only) rating on the front of the videogame cover. This means that only players seventeen or older should be playing such games. However, many children around the ages of twelve and under are acquiring these video games as gifts or are purchasing the games themselves. Therefore, it can be assumed that the parents are purchasing M-rated games for their children, and that stores are willingly selling these young children M-rated games. As Paul Keegan says, parents are not following these ratings and stores are not enforcing them, thus allowing young children to view content that is considered obscene (6). Thus, if parents understand and follow the various video game rating labels, and if stores enforce the videogame rating system, then young children will not be as easily able to view mature material.
It is of my judgment that broadcasting stations are fixated on the words, "breaking news." It seems today that any circumstance holds as current breaking news as highlighted by Psychology Today. "News programming uses a hierarchy if it bleeds, it leads. Fear-based news programming has two aims. The first is to grab the viewer's attention. In the news media, this is called the teaser. The second aim is to persuade the viewer that the solution for reducing the identified worry will be in the news story" (If It Bleeds, It Leads: Understanding Fear-Based Media, par. 1, 2011). Our emotions guide us through our anxieties and most of the time, things seem worse than they actually are. All the discussion regarding Mexicans are taking our jobs (PBS NewsHour, 20:48-20:54, 2015), and North Korea missiles heading for the Pacific border of America etc., are all heightened by the kind of media we consume. The intention of news is to inform us of what's occurring around us and possibly suggest solutions to how to cope or resolve them. However, the real question that should be asked of ourselves is, is it sensationalized or real news and does it seek to benefit or instill fear in its audience? Editor of the Atlantic, Molly Ball uses news outlet, The Guardian, in agreement and opens up about how the media is like a cloak of protection for Americans. News is extremely subjective, especially when determining what order a news bulletin should go in and what stories to pick. Often news falls into one or more categories (Harcup, 2009, P43), which are based on what will interest a particular audience. Every week in our news days, we would discuss the order in which our stories would go and also how interesting the story is to our viewer. Often, stories that are more accessible and have better pictures tend to be higher in the bulletin. However, news which often affects more people will make the top bulletin. With news being so subjective, it reframes the viewer from accessing this eliminating process. Often, stories that are more effective and interesting to the viewer are eliminated as finding the person or pictures may prove difficult. This can inflict a very narrow-minded view of the world to the viewer as they are only viewing what we decide is newsworthy, whereas if they had seen the bulletin, they may have argued for other stories to make the news.
Video games are often portrayed in a negative manner because they are seen as having an "addictive" quality. Addiction has been defined as "A primary, chronic disease, characterized by impaired control over the use of a psychoactive substance and/or behavior. Despite the wonderful benefits games offer as diversions, spending too much time, to the neglect of normal life duties, and social development with direct contact with others can and often does happen. Clinically, the manifestations occur along biological, sociological, spiritual and especially psychological. Some psychological effects that affect the behaviors are failure to play outdoor games, difficulties in work or school, telling lies to everyone, decreased attention to personal hygiene, decreased attention to family and friends, and disturbances in the sleep cycle. Video games are not considered as a serious addiction amongst teenagers and adults, often being compared to severe cases of addiction, such as drug abuse or alcohol abuse that may result in the appearance of a decrease in the severity of the addiction. However, video game addiction is a serious matter and has unhealthy consequences for an individual 's life and their health; spending too much time playing video games can take a great toll on one 's physical and mental well-being. Continuing unhealthy patterns of video game activity for prolonged periods of time can result in mental health issues, physical health problems, and a decline in a social life.
Much is being discovered when the public, also known as the consumers and recipients of the news, share their views on journalistic practices.
