How to Manage a Film Production Film production or known as film making is defined as the process of making a film. In managing a film production, one must be a good film production manager. According to Media Match (n. d.), film production manager is known as someone who organises the business, finance including an estimated budget as well as employment in film production. Besides that, a production manager is also responsible to ensure that everything runs efficiently during the production. This is where, all aspects of preparations are well planned and made by hiring film crews and casts as well as selecting locations and preparing the sets and props for the film production purposes. The production budget and schedule are planned and created to ensure the production will run smoothly according to plan. TheTakes (n. d.), also mentioned that production budget is prepared to plan for the expenditures of the overall production. It is also the process of hiring the head of relevant departments such as the creative department that is consisted of director, assistant director, script writer/supervisor, production designer, art director, continuity, makeup artist and wardrobe. As for the management department, it is consisted of producer, assistant producer, production manager, assistant production manager, location coordinator, production accountant, production assistant and runners as well as the technical department. The locations are selected and the recce process is done to identify the danger, risks or threat of each location whether the locations are safe and suitable or otherwise. Following that, the casting call is made in order to find the suitable casts based from the script made. For major productions, insurance is also procured to protect against accidents. Main casts are regularly required to partake in promotional tours in which they appear at festivals and premieres, and attend interviews with various TV, online journalists, and print media. The film can also be promoted via own special website separate from those of the production company or distributor. The distribution process may wholly or partly be managed by the distributors appointed or contracted by the film production company.
