“You can get busy living, or get busy dying,” said ‘Red’, that has stuck with me since the first time I watched Shawshank Redemption. When I was a young man, I watched Shawshank Redemption with my father for the first time. It was probably the most influential movie I had seen in the last few years and the message it sent me was wonderful and easy to fully appreciate as a ten year old boy. The movie has very compelling acting and the cinematography is what sets it apart from other movies.
Shawshank Redemption is a movie based in Massachusetts, during the mid 1950’s. Directed by Frank Darabont, Shawshank Redemption is a masterpiece in melding music with video. Starring Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman as ‘Red’ Redding. Andy has recently been convicted of murdering his wife. Andy is a former banker and ‘Red’ is a lifer in prison who’s been in the system all his life. These two men become unlikely companions in a tale of loyalty, friendship, and the undying will of the human spirit.
During the course of Shawshank Redemption, the film evolves and builds upon itself. The plot twists in just the right way for the viewer to still be engaged. With its own take on how prison would be. Even though it was filmed in 1994, it still is a classic, holding a spot of a list of top ten on many movie review websites. Shawshank Redemption is a film that will bring tears of joy to your eyes and also tears of sorrow for the tragic nature of the story.
