Speak, a Coming of Age Film The movie Speak is a coming of age film based off of the novel. It is a story about a young women undergoing the transformation from ignorance to maturity. This film is a classic example of the coming of age genre portrayed by a more modern view point. It contains many actors including, Kristen Stewart, who plays Melinda Sordino, (the main character). The film also has star Steve Zahn, it was director by Jessica Sharzer and produced in 2004. Speak is a excellent film that clearly depicts the true meaning of coming of age. The film begins with Melinda Sordino sitting in front of a mirror putting on makeup. This makes you believe that she is a women already as makeup is almost a right of passage in our culture today. This is a huge step in he coming of age direction. Even though she isn't yet able to say it out loud, she has written it down.
