The roaring 20’s, a time of political and societal change. For the first time in this era more people were inhabiting cities rather than farms and the roles of women were changing faster than the migration of people. This time brought forth many challenges such as; the prohibition, The kkk’s second and most violent revival, and strong nativism that swept the Country. The great gatsby takes place in the Long Island, NY or in the novel “East Egg” and “West Egg” the Great Neck and Port Washington peninsulas of long island. The West Egg is the the more sophisticated old money while the East egg is the new money and the more flashy of the two. Tom is introduced to us as “sturdy, straw-haired man of thirty with a rather hard mouth and a supercilious manner.
