What if the solutions to a problem actually are not a solution at all and only made things worse? In the documentary Fed Up, produced by Stephanie Soechtig and narrated by Katie Couric, it digs up secrets about the American food industry. It also persuades Americans that everything they have learned about food and exercise in the last quarter century has been wrong. The film shows the corrupt food industry and argues that the obesity epidemic is not because of the insufficient amount of exercise or having an increased appetite; it is because of the corruption in the food industry. Through rhetoric analysis, the filmmakers are able to convince and warn their audience of the reason behind the growing epidemic of obesity and how the government and food industries are manipulating the people. Pathos is emotionally connecting to the audience. There were images and clips of obese six months old babies "you want to tell me their supposed to diet and exercise?" Throughout the film, they had film of interviews from families with children, who are overweight for their age. Tinna, a mother of an overweight child, tells a story about how her child was teased about being fat. Also, another mother by the name of Andrea spoke with her child's doctor and he said that her son was gaining more weight and faster than he had before even though he was eating less and exercising more. The interviews really connect to the audience because they are life experiences and people take the opportunity to think "what if that was me, what if that was my child?" Another important thing is how the film spoke to the audience. If talking to an audience who cannot understand, then they can't connect. Language techniques are important for that
