Fate In Antigone

Creon a new king of Thebes, demanded that Antigone shall not bury her brother Polyneices and yet she buried him anyway. Creon thinks that Polyneices is a betrayer and he did not deserve to be buried and should be fed to the animals. Antigone follows orders from the gods, but she does not seem to listen to Creon's laws. This causes Antigone to hang herself and her husband after that, hangs himself too. The only one left of her family is her sister who escapes the curse, but she has to deal with the suffering of her family. After hearing about her son’s death, Eurydice(Creon’s wife) kills herself too. In the end the chorus learned that Creon made a mistake not letting Antigone bury her brother. On page 55 it says, “Future is in greater hands.” This is saying your fate can not be changed and your fate is chosen before you are even …show more content…

Others may say no, because she was doing the right thing. I believe that Antigone did not deserve her fate because she did the honorable thing knowing the consequence. She obviously is not innocent though, because she still broek Creon's , law. Though, it was fate that lead her to do what she did. Creon says, “O god i am sick with fear./ Are there no swords here? Has no one a blow for me?” Creon felt no reason to stay alive after knowing what he did to his family. He saw no reason to see, because then all he would see was sorrow and he would notice his family no longer there.Creon on the other hand did deserve his fate, because he causes so many deaths and he didn’t allow for Antigone’s brother’s burial. Everything that Creon did caused him to be sentenced to a life of suffering, which is way worse than death. Towards the end Creon admits what he did was wrong . It is honestly hard for Creon knowing that he’s the murderer, because he is in grief and has to live with that pain for the rest of his
