Fatal truck crashes are on the rise in Louisiana and across the United States, according to a new report from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The report, which finalizes preliminary data released by the agency a year ago, shows that fatal large truck accidents increased by 3 percent between 2015 and 2016.
The FMCSA defines large trucks as those that weigh 10,000 pounds or more. There were 11.5 million such trucks registered in the U.S. in 2016, which is up from 11.2 million in 2015. According to the report, there were 4,213 fatal large truck accidents in 2016, compared with 4,074 in 2015. These accidents resulted in 4,317 deaths, compared to 4,094 the previous year. There have been many horrific and disturbing murders in Illinois. There have also been gangs that have been born and destroyed in Illinois. Two of these terrible happened to take place in little Skidmore. One of the gangs in Illinois was Charlie Birger and his Boys. Trucking has been a relevant career in the United States ever since the 19th century during WWI the army used trucks to transport goods to the soldiers. People in the towns and cities saw they were good transporter so as roads were built and paved more people start owning them. The Interstate Highway System was a big movement for truckers now they could haul there companies goods farther to other cities. The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 helped drivers who went on strike because of the price of gas to run and operate the trucks. Alex Debogorski was a long haul trucker introduced to trucking when he was looking to earn more money to do for his family. As he drove he realized how good the open road looks as the road meet the sky. Now he is on some of CMT’s episodes of Ice Road Truckers, he said If it wasn’t for his parents and wife he wouldn’t have made it. He also open the door for most of the truckers with criminal records. He helped pas the law that states if your drving record is good you can go in for the long haul.

Accidents can occur to an individual regardless of age, gender and even race. Unintentional Injuries/Accidents include motor vehicle crashes, unintentional poisonings, accidental suffocation, drowning, falls, unintentional fires, and unintentional firearm discharges. According to South Carolina DHEC, in 2010, there was a small difference in the death rates for accidents, which was ranked five out of ten for the overall causes of deaths for the white population and black population. For the White/Caucasian population, the death rate was 5.4 percent and for the Black/African-American population, the death rate was 4.9 percent. There was a 0.7 percent difference between the two populations. But, in contrast there was a 38.0 percent death rate for unintentional injuries for all ages in the United States.

It spread like wild fire across the United States and soon grew to an organization with 3,000,000 members. This program has helped many people and though drunk driving accidents still occur, they are doing something. Another organization that is trying to help in the campaign to stop drunk driving is SADD. Students Against Drunk Driving is another non profit organization that is run by teenagers throughout America. It is a program essentially for the prevention of student related accidents cause by alcohol. This program is open to students from grades 9-12.
