Obesity is the main focus in America, but it is not t... ... middle of paper ... ...high cholesterol, killing their own heart with this famous fast food. America is aware of all health issues, but is playing hard headed to the facts. Fast food is found to be so good and yet affordable no one stops to think about consequences to their own body or their young children bodies. Fast food is so harmful to the body no matter what alternation to foods the industries try to change the trans fats for producing the food will remain in the premade ingredients. Fast food has basically become waste to a human body.
In 2002 two girls sued McDonalds because they claimed that it was making them fat. Many people in America blame the fast food industry for making them fat. Nutritional information is available for most fast food restaurants and one is forced to eat there. Even though the food is unhealthy, the fast food industry should not be held responsible for obesity in the United States. Many Americans have busy lives and do not have time to cook for themselves, so eating out seems to be easier and more convenient.
One of the biggest problems the world faces today is the fast food industry with its expanding growth. The fast food industry continues to grow and that is because of the many people who are unaware of what they are actually eating. Everyone should think twice before deciding to eat fast food. There are many health risks when it comes to eating food that is made within a matter of seconds. “The food is not properly taken care of, which leads all the way back to where the food is originally produced”, according to Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation.
Near the core of American culture that dearly loves liberty, lies its love for fast food and all that it offers. The fast food industry was initially created as a moneymaking enterprise that marketed itself as a time effective source of food, but over the years it has strayed from its marketing promise to save Americans’ time. Many Americans are regulars at one, or more, of the numerous fast food restaurants in the United States, because they want to save valuable time that otherwise would be squandered in the kitchen. The time that consumers envision they save while eating at fast food restaurants is wrongly perceived; the host of health issues linked to fast food consumption eventually eats away at any time people might have saved. By eating fast food, efficiency is lost due to its unhealthy nature, not only for the copious amounts of fats and salts it contains, but also because it lacks of vital nutrients.
Eric Schlosser from Food Inc. says “the way we eat now has changed more in the last fifty years than in the previous ten thousand years.” Most foods in fast food restaurants contain MSG or Monosodium Glutamate. MSG is concentrated salts added to food to give more flavor. MSG turns into unwanted body fat if you eat it regularly. McDonalds Big Mac “540 calories and 29 g of fat” and a Medium fries “380 calories and 19 g of fat” and don’t forget the drink Large Iced tea “280 calories and 0 g of fat”. The Average Big Mac Meal at McDonald’s is about 920 calories, 360 of them are pure fat and the equals around 41 grams more than 3/4ths of your daily fat intake.
Fast Food has taken over America. They implement their fat and greasy foods all over the world to make billions of dollars. Fast food is cheap, delicious, and convenient. However, what people don’t realize is that this food can be very harmful to your body. The fast food is full of calories, fats, and chemicals that are not the best healthy choice for your diet.
McDonalds is somewhere everyone has eaten at, but do they really know what they are eating? People today trust anyone with their food in order to save time for work and other important tasks. The time spent on cooking meals in America has "fallen by half since the mid-sixties" (Pollan, "Cooked" 3). Nutrition has been put in the hands of fast food corporations around the world, and they are unfortunately concerned more about money rather than health and nutrition. In other words, the food produced by McDonalds and other fast food establishments is the unhealthiest food people can eat and often leads to serious illnesses if consumed enough.
One last thing that fast food restaurants do that are important for attracting children is providing contests, free samples, and free giveaways. The United States is a fast food nation. Americans rely heavily on fast food restaurants each and every day. The statistics of the fast food industry speaks for itself. I know its hard to believe but there are some people in this world that dislike fast food restaurants.
These factors are the reasons that fast food restaurants are to blame for the rising obesity and health risks across America. The government needs to step in and place regulations on these fast food restaurants so they will stop taking advantage of people's weaknesses. Before it can be gone into detail about how fast food companies are to blame for people over eating their food, it first must be proven that fast food is indeed the main problem causing today's obesity in America. It is known to many people how the number of fast food restaurants in America has increased tremendously over the past several decades, but it is difficult to calculate by how much due to the lack of historic statistics. Also, it is difficult whether or not to categorize certain restaurants as fast food.
In this generation, media and advertisement, such as television and radio commercials, are the main reasons behind people eating too much junk food as media hypnotizes and brain washes people into buying what seems to be delicious and cheap. According to a new report by the Yale Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity, in 2012, $4.6 billion was spent by junk food industry solely on advertising to support everyday visits by young people to fast food restaurants, mainly focusing on young children (Orciari, 2013).Since people are busy with their work and are always on the go, they have no time to cook, and are obligated to eat outside. Therefore, they spend less quality time together as a family. According to a survey, in some days, 55% of the UAE parents who have jobs mention that they do not even have one meal a day (Staff, 2014). These days, almost all women work full time jobs to gain income; therefore, they barely have time to cook for their families.
