In Tim O 'brien 's, The Things They Carried, The author clearly uses the list of physical tools that the Alpha Company soldiers carry in Vietnam as the emotional feelings that these soldiers bear. One is the necessity for the soldiers to overcome tension between fantasy and reality. While the natural for Tim O 'Brien 's “The Things They Carried" is to write about the physical objects each soldier carried with them in war, the correlation to internal 'things they carried ' were much more significant, and including such things as doubts and fears they had within them.
The author clearly uses the list of physical tools that the Alpha Company soldiers carry in Vietnam as well as the emotional feelings that these soldiers bear. One is the necessity for the soldiers to overcome tension between fantasy and reality. The soldiers were fighting for their lives. Although, while fighting for their lives they were also fighting themselves. They were told stories by other soldiers in war that they could picture in their mind very easily because of the experiences they have already had in the past. They should be embarrassing and truthful without a care for the hearing of the story. Real war stories are both what happened because you saw it with your own eyes, but also what seemed to happen because what you saw seems to have a feeling of realness, which leaves you knowing what it seemed like at the time. True war stories sometimes make you lie about the normal things happening in the story to make the true crazy parts actually seem true. On occasion, these stories are so real that you can tell anyone, and everyone believes them. Finally, you can tell if a war story is true by the way that they never seem to end and how you can never stop telling it, to to the true realism it
