A two-parent nuclear family was selected for this family exploration interview. I work with the mother of the family. She was very eager and her family was willing to participate. I selected this family because they are of a different race as well as background in comparison to me. I had not met the family until the day of the observation. Going into the observation I wanted to see if there were any similarities as well as differences in comparison to my background and upbringing. I aimed to get the families candid responses. In regards to the culture of the household, it is expected that the children take the lead of the parents as far as behaviors, beliefs, and values. These traits were passed down to the parents and they are currently working to instill them in their children. Both the mother and father were born in raised in the same town. Family and tradition is an important factor to these individuals. Intergenerational relationships are important and they strive to make sure the children have a strong relationship with their elders. They want to instill respect and appreciation of family in their children. I asked what parenting style they resembled most and both of the parents as well as the son agreed that it was authoritative parenting. They claim to have high parental involvement. They are supportive and accepting of their children as well as demanding. The relationship between the parents and the three children is claimed to be reciprocal, responsive, and high in communication. I wanted to end our discussion/interview on a light and positive note. I asked the family about a time where they were proud of their family members. The son stated that he was proud of his dad for working two jobs. The mother stated that she was proud of her son for being able to prioritize school and after school activities. The father stated that he was proud of his daughters for being able to get alone so well. One of the daughters claimed she was proud of the cookies her mom baked last night for
