In The Bean Trees, by Barbara Kingsolver, Taylor Greer moves out of Kentucky to have a new start. After she ends up with a toddler named Turtle, she decides to stay in Arizona, Taylor starts to create her own version of a family. Kingsolver shows that family can come from different backgrounds, groups, races and does not have to be related to you proving that family is different for everyone.
