Parents` Role of their Children Don Mackay in his article, “Kazakhstan says SpongeBob SquarePants is a violent bully who corrupts children`s minds,” talks about the role of parents in the education of their children to prevented them from watching cartoon movies that are harmful to their minds, and it causes negative effect on their children in the community. On the other hand, Ellen Goodman in her article, “Family Counterculture,” talked about a specific point that was the media, and how it affects and attracts the children in a bad way. They talk about how it will affect the culture of their children, and both of them focused of the parents' role towards their children. The counter culture is better than SpongeBob for several reasons because Goodman covers the idea in a general way using rhetorical appeals, the organization, and the style. Both of Don Macky and Ellen Goodman have the same idea but directed to the different people. For example, Don wrote his article to the British younger generation to prevent their children from watching SpongeBob because it has several bad things. For instance, Food`s ads on TV is one of the negative habits in the media because food`s ads attract children to buy it, and it is very dangerous because it can cause high cholesterol. Also, the media includes bad channels and messages about sex and drugs, so that dangerous for children`s culture.
