The first artifact I chose was an interview I did on a Jewish family for a family case study in family systems class. I chose this interview because I enjoy learning about other people cultural, religion and the way they things how different everyone is from each other. What I learned from this interview is that people are made up of many different values and characteristics not person it the same so cultures might vaules things that other might not see not as important. As a teacher it your job to take in consideration that every children in your classroom will come from a different culture, religion, values and characters you have to keep you own thought about that out of the classroom and focus on them no matter what you might be thinking …show more content…
This relates to the first artifact because in the interview “Ron” talks about how he learned different thing about this religion and culture that he still does today and that he has passed it down to his children and their families just like how he had learned growing up with his parents. The second artifact connects because when we had the food day everyone brings in a different dish that respulted them and felt comfortable making because they probably grew up making it with their grandparents and so on. The movie relates because they different culture have have different beliefs and many of the other conuite make their children's education very seouure so when the child so to not take it as seoucie they parent find that a form of discrest the mother do the most because most of them aren’t able to get an education. The last artifact connects because in most community all the people are the same some lived their forever so they might come from the same culture so bring in parent and people from the community children have grown up around the people and are not exposed to different culture. Increasing your knowledge in many cultural backgrounds can be beneficial to you and to understand how life is for other people with different cultural upbringing than you. Three stories I found that would be really interesting to not only the students but also to the other teachers that I could be working with are “From Shadows of a Childhood” by Elisabeth Gille, “From Catfish and Mandala: A Two-wheeled Voyage through the Landscape and Memory of Vietnam; Last Gamble” by Andrew X. Everyone in the world belongs to a subculture. Each subculture has its own sets of traditions, relics, and artifacts. Relics and artifacts are symbolic, material possessions important to one's subculture. Relics are from the past; artifacts are from the present. These traditions, relics, and artifacts help shape the personalities of individuals and how they relate with others. Individuals know about these items through storytelling in the subculture. Families are good examples of subcultures. My family, a middle-class suburban Detroit family of Eastern European heritage, has helped shape who I am through story telling about traditions, artifacts, and relics.
The actual first stage of the family life cycle is the family of origin experiences. During this phase the main task are building of a solid foundation, and maintaining relationships with parents, siblings, and peers. The family of origin is basically the family you grew up in, which is the center of what shapes who we are. A healthy family of origin exhibits a strong foundation that will be the center piece of that family unit. If effective the family will have a strong sense of togetherness, communication, separateness, and connectedness. In Alice Walker's "Everyday Use," the message about the preservation of heritage, specifically African-American heritage, is very clear. It is obvious that Walker believes that a person's heritage should be a living, dynamic part of the culture from which it arose and not a frozen timepiece only to be observed from a distance. There are two main approaches to heritage preservation depicted by the characters in this story. The narrator, a middle-aged African-American woman, and her youngest daughter Maggie, are in agreement with Walker. To them, their family heritage is everything around them that is involved in their everyday lives and everything that was involved in the lives of their ancestors. To Dee, the narrator's oldest daughter, heritage is the past - something to frame or hang on the wall, a mere artistic, aesthetic reminder of her family history. Walker depicts Dee's view of family heritage as being one of confusion and lack of understanding.

In the past the nuclear family was the ideal model. The nuclear family also called domesticity is characterized as, women being responsible for keeping the home and children and men being the breadwinner. It is two adults living together in a household with their own or adopted children. Another type of family is the extended family. The extended family is defined as a family group consisting of more than two generation of relatives living either within the same household or very close to one another.
