The concept of a family traces back to the beginning of human kind. The family unit provides a tightly knit group of people, related by blood, to support and encourage each other. The deep connection between a man and a woman creates the headstone of the family, made true by the promise of marriage. This connection deepens by channeling their love into a child, creating bonds like no other. However, the original design for a family and marriage, is being challenged. The picture of a family is being altered, slowly moving towards abolishment. For centuries, the family unit has remained untouched by humanity, where society is unable to fully understand the bigger meaning behind this special bond.

When times started to change, a wise English philosopher, G.K. Chesterton, noted the shift and wrote a message of caution. In each of his works, it is apparent society is moving in a new, different direction, away from the principles humans have lived by for centuries. In the Heir of All Ages, society no longer has no problem forgetting history and even believes false history, no matter the amount of contradicting evidence. The Medical Mistake discusses how people try to fix societal problems, where each person has a different idea of an ideal outcome. As a society, it is impossible to solve a problem without having the same idea of the end goal. The Fear of the Past explores how the people of Chesterton’s time, and presumably today, are only focused and concerned with the future, instead of the past and present. People believe there is nothing left to learn or extract from the past and prefer to dream of their ideal world. Yet, the truth remains, the ideas from the past are not only useful to remember, but should be used to enhance society. Finally, in The Free Family, he addresses the problems arising in marriages, the focal point of a family, specifically the role of sex and the faulty mindset couples have
