Fallen Societies: Nazi Germans and Ancient Rome

Imagine a society where you can be in complete relaxation at all times. Few societies have ever been close to being this perfect and although we are not certain as to why societies fall, three main reasons seem to cause them to fall. Societies can fall due to a weak security system, unemployment, and discrimination. Some of the most powerful societies including Nazi Germany, Ancient Rome, and the society within the novel Divergent written by Suzanne Collins, have fallen miserably because of these reasons.

Weak security systems can be a major contribution to a society falling. If a security system is weak and easy to hack into, the country could become endangered. Veronica Roth writes, “The elevator reaches the eighth floor and the doors open. Two guards stand ready with guns in hand, their faces blank. My eyes widen, and I drop to my belly on the ground as the shots go off. I hear bullets strike glass. The guards slump to the ground, one alive and groaning, the other fading fast”(470 Roth). The security is weak because people are controlled by a simulation which allows people to break in and hack into it which usually leads to invasions. Invasions are a popular reason for the downfall of a society. Invasions usually occur because of a weak security system. Teachers Curriculum Institute writes, “In A.D. 476 the Germanic general Odovacar overthrew the last of the Roman emperors and made himself ruler of all Italy. From then on the western part of the Empire was ruled by Germanic tribal chiefs. Roads and bridges were left in disrepair and many fields were left untilled. Pirates and bandits made travel unsafe. Cities declined and trade and business began to disappear”(Teachers Curriculum Institute). The security system in Rome was w...

...ent Rome, and the novel Divergent written by Suzanne Collins, almost always fall for the three following reasons; a weak security system, unemployment, and discrimination. If these problems are realized and taken care of, the society will be able to progress and become the best it can be. No society has ever been close to perfect, but could yours be the first?
