In life, faith allows people to understand and remember great things. So when it seems that life’s path has gone astray, people turn to faith; but what is faith? Saint Augustine once said, “Faith is believing what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” The definition of faith varies depending on a person 's cultural, social, and religious beliefs but the overall meaning of faith doesn 't change. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary believes the definition of faith to be “a strong belief or trust in someone or something, or belief in the existence of God : strong religious feelings or beliefs.” Although, everyone 's definition may be worded differently than the dictionary definition or Saint Augustine’s the basic premise of it remains the same. Faith is an ever convicting, strong, deep, emotional trust that is held with whole being. When broken, it cripples, but faith is the kind trust that prevails and finds a way to be believed in once again. It is a fidelity to one 's promises, a firm belief in something for which there is no proof. Faith is what lets people function despite knowing or perceiving how miniscule they actually know about all that envelopes them. This is where beliefs are placed ever so deservingly into the definition of Faith. Faith does not equate to beliefs, but it is possible to hold faith in some of your beliefs. Faith cannot be blind without reasoning. We can hold faith in beliefs, principles, people, religious traditions, communities, systems of maintenance, knowledgeable institutions, ourselves, and in the universe as a whole itself. Faith in the universe is sometimes referred to as a “Faith in God”, or “Faith in the idea of Creation”. All of those examples can be rationally inquired with loyalty, undoubtful an ever convicting, strong, deep, emotional trust. That can be held with their whole being. When broken, it cripples, but always prevails and finds a way to be believed in once again. A fidelity to one 's promises, a firm belief in something for which there is no proof and might not ever be. That is the definition of faith. Letting a person function despite knowing or perceiving how miniscule they actually know about all that envelopes them and their surroundings. A beliefs placed ever so deservingly into life. Not equating to beliefs, but holding strong faith in beliefs. Confusing and unassuring at times but not blind.
