How Fairy Tales Affect Future Generations Fairy Tales have been around for many centuries. Most children around the world have heard a fairy tale once or twice in their lives. In the most recent century, Fairy Tales have made their way into Hollywood films, mainly Disney Films. Growing up particularly in the late 1990s, almost every child either watched Disney films at home or while attending preschool. Now that twenty years have come and gone, I would like to see if those children born during that time feel fairy tale lessons are important enough to push down to the next generation. This study was produced by using qualitative research methods to see if fairy tales are affecting past and future generations (Merriam, 2009). This research study includes interview questions answered by 30 participants demonstrating how fairy tales did affect their generation and this data is used to show if fairy tales will continue to affect future generations. Underneath the magical story of fairy tales lays a reservoir of everlasting stories of life lessons that are passed down from generations to generations. This study will show if fairy tales have effects on the participants’ lives as young adults. The study will also show if there are differences in how the children comprehend the stories differently after being read the fairy tales or after watching the stories acted out through a movie. I learned that to my surprise they did not like Cinderella. Mainly the male population of my survey did not like Cinderella because they feel the fairy tale teaches young girls to flaunt around for attention. Personally, I think Cinderella is one of the best fairy tales and I believe that it is also well loved throughout the world, but this is due to my recent study of the original Cinderella; not the Hollywood version. When I asked the participants what their favorite fairy tale was they responded with 101 Dalmatians. That kind of baffled me because I had never thought of 101 Dalmatians as a fairy tale; however, I can see how today’s generations will deem it as such. So I did a little research and found out that it was classified as a fairy tale that was even more surprising to me. After going back and rereading some of the main parts in 101 Dalmatians I realized, that in fact, it was a fairy tale and had some of the main characteristics of the original fairy tale.
