Recommended: Economic impact of illegal immigrants

The website that I choose to write about is fairus.org which stands for Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). The reason that I choose to pick this website is because I have worked with them before. At my current field placement I work with refugees and sometime people from organization such as fair call to verify documents we have for people. Fairs goal is to improve border security, stop illegal immigrant and help out citizen of the United States. FAIR believe that having illegal immigrant in the county is harm the nation and more importantly the American citizen. Their belief is that the more illegal immigrant the more taxes American citizen pays. They think that people are coming to America on a visa and are staying longer than …show more content…

“Fair is working on a project that will allow the border patrol department to have more money for better equipment to help stop illegals from entering the country. Fair priority is seems to be the concern f illegal immigrants and their harmful effect on society. Fair think that the issue on immigrant is being ignored “With the Obama Administration committed to promoting the adoption of an amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens living in the United States in a repetition of the 1986 amnesty, the focus of discussion has largely been on illegal immigration, and legal immigration has largely been ignored” Regardless of legal or illegal immigrant fair think the numbers are to high and they want to assist in the paper work process of deporting immigrant and assisting in national security at the borders. I agree with fair I think that ther are way to many immigrant in the United Sttes. I work with immigrant everyday and the first thing that they do when arrive is have a baby so that if they do get deportd the child is a citizen and it is consider a hardship separation if they deport the mother and the child

The documentary Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary focuses on the issue from this point of view. This documentary uses pathos and logos to show the lives and hardships of those people who are trying to migrate to a new country. Although Wetback used many examples of pathos and logos to show the struggles of the migrants, Border War did a better job showing pathos by following the lives of people who were affected by the illegal immigrants they were also very persuasive with ethos by following credible people.

    In the first article, The Economic Benefits of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Raúl Hinojosa- Ojeda argues that if the United States government moved from an ‘enforcement only policy’ to a comprehensive immigration reform, both individuals born in America and immigrants would increase benefits. The comprehensive immigration reform that Ojeda describes “legalizes current unauthorized immigrants and creates flexible legal limits on future immigration in the context of full labor rights…” (Ojeda page 175). Ojeda further argues that the current U.S. policy creates a wage floor, and if undocumented immigrants gain citizenship, the wage floor will rise, increasing the wages of all workers. The rise in wages cited in the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) states that a comprehensive immigration reform would increase consumer consumption and wages and would increase the creation of jobs and tax revenue. This is mainly based on the concept that IRCA was implemented during a time of recession, but was still able to raise wages and investments made by immigrants. Ojeda explains, through the example of the IRCA, it is estimated that comprehensive reform, over 10 years, would create 1.5 trillion dollars in United States gross domestic product (GDP) (176). However, they add that one of the issues with the IRCA, is the lack of flexible limits set on the number of workers allowed to enter the United States. In the 1990, therefore, U.S. labor demands were not met.

I took a critical look at both and evaluated how well the two educated the general public to the issues of Mexican American history. As a point of reference, I used information from the Vargas book, along with class lectures and discussions, and compared it to information found on the video and the web-site. In the following essay I aim to show that the video and web-site do not serve as adequate tools to educating the general public. While they do touch upon many issues of Mexican- American history, they do not do so with the detail of Vargas. Also, they do not depict the hardships experienced by the Mexicans and the racism of the Anglos as well as the Vargas book.
