If you are what you eat, then you are an abused piglet. In factory farms all over America unspeakable things are done to these animals. They are raised just to die. Their short lives are miserable ones. Not only are factory farms harming the defenseless animals, it is harming the environment as well. The meat from the animals in factory farms is mechanically removed, which means that it is torn from the bone and other parts of the body by a machine. Factory farms even use parts of the body that most people wouldn 't use such as: lips, eyes, tentacles, and anal tracts that are included in sausage and patties (Hurst). Ever since we developed farming, we have locked up our animals. We have impregnated sows and fattened piglets for the slaughter. The technique of farming is just different and on a larger scale. Because of innovations, farming methods have changed. There are also more people to feed in the United States. The prices of meat have to be kept low so that every family, even the poorest family can afford to have meat protein in their diet. Now that meat is available to poorer people, their diet has been better overall than it had been in the past (Deane, 2004). The conditions on factory farms are filthy, overcrowded and disease ridden. Animals forced to live out their lives on these farms are subject to extremely harsh conditions, such as mutilation, confinement and living spaces piled high with feces. Not only do conditions on factory farms make life for livestock absolutely miserable, but factory farms are also negatively impacting human health and the environment. The production and sale of meat has become a billion-dollar industry based upon the bloodshed of other sentient beings. These factories are mainly located in Third-World countries, although there are still a few in the United States. Many popular, name brand companies like Nike, use sweatshops around the world. Today there is much controversy about sweatshops and whether they should be banned and closed. In reality, the conditions of these factories are terrible. The employees are paid very little, even after working long, hard hours. The supervisors of these shops are often cruel, malicious, and brutal. Sadly, these factories are often the only source of income for Third-World workers. As bad as these sweatshops might be, they have pulled many countries and individuals out of poverty. So, are sweatshops beneficial?

Showing is far more than just taking an animal into the show ring, you must prepare. When show season is complete the animals go somewhere, even though people don’t want to think about it.

In the book Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author talks about, not only vegetarianism, but reveals to us what actually occurs in the factory farming system. The issue circulating in this book is whether to eat meat or not to eat meat. Foer, however, never tries to convert his reader to become vegetarians but rather to inform them with information so they can respond with better judgment. Eating meat has been a thing that majority of us engage in without question. Which is why among other reasons Foer feels compelled to share his findings about where our meat come from. According to the article Factory Framing, Misery of Animals, the factory farming industry strives to maximize output while minimizing cost, always at the animal’s expense. “The giant corporations that run most factory farms have found that they can make more money by squeezing as many animals as possible into tiny spaces, even though many of the animals die from disease or infection” (Factory Farming).
