Factors Influencing Perception Perception is influenced by three key points, the perceiver itself, the situation, and the target. The perceiver is the main point of interpretation which is influenced by attitudes, motives, interests, past experiences, and expectations. The target has characteristics which affect what we perceive, such as novelty, motion, size, shape, and background. He is sure that the plan Scottie McBee is proposing would fail if Mikisiw tried to implement it. It is a program that allows employees the option to contribute to a retirement fund or take their earnings elsewhere. This failure to be open to change and become more adaptable shows that Bob would score low on the openness to experience scale.
