The American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual defines antisocial personality as a persuasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues to adulthood. Antisocial patterns are also known as psychopathy, sociopathy, or dissocial personality disorder. Those with ASPD are sociable but in an abnormal way. They do not conform to normal social standards or behavior. Individuals lack empathy for others and have no shame when causing damage towards another person. This disorder is more common in men than in women. It is about seventy percent more dominant in males ("Antisocial personality disorder," 2004). The prevalence is 3 percent in males and one percent in females (Fisher, & O'Donohue, 2006). There are many factors that are associated with ASPD. They could be family patterns, neglect, substance abuse, or environmental situations. Individuals lack moral sense and only think about benefiting and pleasuring themselves (Antisocial personality disorder, 2000).
The lives of those with ASPD are filled with feelings of anger, shame, envy, boredom, and pleasure through power. They lack the behavior and moral mentality of normal individuals. Meloy (2007) says it is a “pre-socialized” emotional world. They live in their own world cutting out reality. They do as they please. When they get the things that want, they feel pleasure and they seek to continue to satisfy themselves. On the other hand when it is difficult to get the things they want they easily get frustrated and blame others for their vile behavior. ASPD individuals do not have relationships with other people but themselves. They are not able to experience emotions such as grat...

...py. The goal of this therapy is for the individual to understand the problem created by them and how others view him/her differently. They need to learn to trust others and not allow anger get the better of them. Those with severe ASPD cannot cope with therapy so the best way to keep them from doing irrational thing is to send them to prison (Black, 2006).
It is important that these individuals get help because they are vulnerable to anxiety, depression, and other disorders (Vena, 2011). The will also have the risk of facing numerous complications as they are older such as physical violence, child abuse, time in jail or prison, substance abuse, and premature death by homicide or suicide behavior, from violence (Diseases and conditions:, 2013). In the twenties the symptoms are at a high level and most patients lose control getting into bad situations (Kivi, 2012).
There are approximately 3% males and 1% female with anti-social personality disorder (ASPD) in general population. Anti-social personality disorder is one of the very common chronic personality disorder (PD), which also known as psychopathy and sociopathy. APSD can be triggered by environmental and genetic factors. People with ASPD often disregard others’ rights and feelings, their abilities to form bonds and communicate with others are dysfunctional. The movie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo illustrated a girl, Lisbeth Salander, with APSD. Analysis on Lisbeth’s life and behavior throughout the movie shows how people with APSD interact with others and integrate with society. Patients with APSD can live a satiable life if appropriate treatment is given.

Individuals who are found to have antisocial personality disorder often exhibit patterns of manipulating or violating the rights of others, lack of regard for the law, lack concern for others, no control over their rage, and they lack guilt for any wrongdoings committed, among other signs. A person with APD will typically have a history of violence, aggressiveness, law-breaking, and deceitfulness dating back to childhood. APD is most common in men than in women. When considering criminal serial killers, people often state that these men they thought they knew were charming, sincere, and the ideal neighbor, but the truth is, it was just a façade masking cruel hatred. Three well-known serial killers that were diagnosed with having antisocial personality disorder are Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, and John Wayne
In conclusion, Anti Social Personality Disorder (ASPD) is a rare personality disorder that is tough to handle. With no true answer of what the cause is one tends to wonder how someone can develop this condition. Signs and symptoms can develop young but cannot be actually diagnosed as ASPD until 18 years of age. Aggression, compulsive lying, devious and manipulating behavior are just a few signs of what to look for. With no direct medications to treat the disorder and therapies that are not guaranteed to work it is hard to have a grasp on how to help those who are diagnosed. Hopefully, within time Anti Social Personality Disorder can be further studied and more evidence can be brought to light to help those with this life altering disorder.
Manipulative behaviour is a dominant characteristic for people with antisocial personality disorder. When in hospital, a patient diagnosed with ASPD may use manipulation tactics on a nurse to alter protocols that will meet their own needs. This may have a negative impact on the hospital unit. In order to prevent the potential that the hospital unit may become compromised, a precise care plan must be implemented and followed by all staff members to manage unwanted behaviour. The nurse must be able to engage in clinical reasoning that will lead to the development of an effective care plan.
Antisocial personality disorder is defined as a type of chronic mental condition that a person’s way of thinking and disregarding situations are dysfunctional (Antisocial Personality Disorder, 2013). In Henry’s case it is defined as physical or verbally harmful to others including animals and property that includes violent behaviors that is not expected in a child in normal social settings or expectations (Antisocial Personality Disorder- Children’s Health, 2015). Violence is common with antisocial personality disorder in children. There are also many symptoms to antisocial personality disorder in children also. Symptoms may include the child not knowing from right and wrong, lying constantly, having lack of empathy for others and lack of remorse
ASP is an immensely tricky disorder to diagnose and treat. ASP requires great effort to deal with. In most cases, ASP is never truly treated but only downplayed. Antisocial personality disorder is considered the most disruptive of the personality disorders (Parker 634).
Effective psychotherapy treatment for this disorder is imperfect. It is likely, though, that intensive, psychoanalytic methods are inappropriate for this population. Approaches that reinforce appropriate behaviors and endeavoring to make connections between the person’s actions and their feelings may be more constructive. Emotions are regularly a key facet of treatment of this disorder. Patients often have had little or no substantial emotionally-rewarding relationships in their lives. The therapeutic relationship, consequently, can be one of the first ones. This can be very scary for the client, initially, and it may become insufferable. A close therapeutic relationship can only happen when a good and solid relationship has been time-honored with the client and he or she can trust the therapist subliminally.
Antisocial Personality Disorder, also informally known as psychopathy/sociopathy, is a disorder where people elicit manipulative behaviors and lack morals. This includes disregard for rules, violence, superficial charm, promiscuity, a superiority complex, and difficulty forming attachments. This is said to be caused by genetics as well as modeling, or watching other people perform this kind of behavior. 3.3% of Americans are diagnosed with Antisocial Personality disorder. It’s 70% more common in males than females and is seen greatly in
In the early years of children, issues of challenging behaviors are bound to surface due to the people in their environment such as peers and the teachers. With the focus steered towards the age group of 4 to 5 years olds, this essay discusses how peers and teachers can encourage the challenging behaviour of antisocial; the presence of antisocial (E.g. angry, destructive, or defiant) behavior and the absence of prosocial (E.g. communicative or compliant) behavior.
Antisocial personality disorder is an illness that affects a person mental health. Antisocial personality disorder to when the individual does not stress the importance of right or wrong in any given situation and they do not regard other people’s feelings. Typically, they treat others with harsh behavior. Individual with antisocial personality disorder can be manipulative, brutally, hostile and believe they are superior to the rest of the citizens. They function on impulse, which means they can do it on a whim. I could see a connection between serial killers and antisocial personality disorder. If the individual has antisocial personality disorder, they do not really have emotions. Emotions make humanity weak, but in a sense, they make us strong, they keep us grounded and sane. If a serial killer can’t experience emotions, maybe that’s why they commit crimes, to see the emotions in others. They are easily agitated and act on impulse, meaning they could commit a crime without even thinking about it. We as humans have a conscience, which keeps most of us from hurting other people, but someone with this disorder has no care for right or
People who suffer from personality disorders often display deviant behavior. The mental illness itself is not deviant. They typically have problems with social skills, mood swings, emotional states, and are often unable to maintain healthy, stable relationships. Many sufferers do not possess the capability to have genuine emotions, including empathy for others. A personality disorder is the basis of many circumstances of maladaptive behavior including substance abuse, self-harm, suicide, and criminality.
They may have great difficulty controlling their impulses and emotions, and often have indistinct perceptions of themselves and others. As a result, these individuals may suffer a vast amount of pain and have significant difficulty carrying out task at home, work, and in relations. Antisocial personality disorder can vary in severity, treacherous activities patterns are referred to as psychopathic. People with this condition are known to have something brutally wrong with their sense of right and wrong. Most professionals depict people with this group of symptoms as being "cold hearted” to the rights of people around them. Complications of this chaos include incarceration, drug misuse, and alcoholism. People with this sickness may seem to be charismatic, but are likely to turn bad-tempered, destructive, and reckless. They also have frequent somatic complaints which lead to them attempting suicide. Dependent personality is another mental condition people found within people that have never been capable to shape a strong logic of themselves and also find themselves living in the shadow of other people. In the beginning in early adulthood this condition could result in being apprehensive, afraid, and lacking of confidence which can stop a person from having a full and pleasing life. They often tend to be controlling and smother anyone around them. Dependents typically go around eliciting constant and repeated reassurances and advice from myriad sources. This recurrent solicitation of succor is proof that the codependent seeks to transfer responsibility for his or her life to others, whether they have agreed to assume it or not. (Dr. Sam Vaknin 2010).
...in a better understanding of this disorder; before seeing this film I might have diagnosed myself with ASPD but now I know that’s not that case. I’m simply introverted a great deal. I would want a patient suffering from this disorder to watch this film because I think it offers a good portrayal of what happens when we fail to communicate enough with others about how we are feeling or what is going on in our lives. Although it may seem unimportant and at times difficult it’s important to talk. Ultimately, it could save lives. I think this movie could be bettered by adding an explanation from Kevin as to why he committed the massacre. Perhaps a scene could be added in which he is undergoing psychotherapy, and the audience is clued into aspects of his disorder either directly by the Kevin character himself, or possibly by his psychiatrist in a conversation with Eva.
This prisoner is a 28 year old male,S.B., was seen by a Psychiatrist named Calcutta after getting into a fight with another inmate over a bet. S.B was brutally beaten up by the Wardens of the jail. The case history reveals that S.B was jailed twice before for cheating case and for assaulting one of his friend. This time S.B was jailed for fighting with a police constable. During interrogation S.B admit that he has beaten the other inmate who refused to pay money. S.B wanted to show his power and there was no regret for his action. Family history showed his neglected childhood and his father left his home at the age of six years old and his mother had a hidden relationship with their neighbor. This example shows the typical way people get diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. Due to this occurrence at the beginning of S.Bs life of neglect as a child by his father and being left for his mother who was having affairs with his next door neighbor he began to develop APD even though it was unknown at the time. Then once S.B was left without any parent or real guardians in his life he started to abuse drugs and alcohol and soon enough got caught up and wound up in jail. All of these events leading to him being in jail caused him to have antisocial personality
