Facebook was created as a way to communicate with their fellow students, but later expanded it to other colleges. It gradually added support for students at various other universities and later to high-school students. In 2006, Facebook was opened up to anyone with a registered e-mail (Phillips, 2007). It’s hard to believe that Facebook has been up and running for over eleven years now. I never knew that it even existed until one of my friends moved to Germany requested my friendship through email. Facebook has become so important in our lives that we don’t have to be with someone face to face to have conversations or to keep in touch. We need to stop and think about our actions and how we treat others. When walking into a store, restaurant or watching people on the streets, they have their eyes on their phone. When I meet my friend Karen at a restaurant, she will sometimes pull her phone out and get on Facebook or Pinterest. People don’t realize that when they are on their phones and ignoring the group they’re with, that this is rude and hurtful. When I’m with my friends and family I put my phone away so that I’m not being rude or
Did you know that almost everything you do on the internet is being tracked and recorded in some way? In the Article, George Orwell… Meet Mark Zuckerberg, by Lori Andrews, Andrews talks about how behavioral advertising, which is the tracking of consumer’s online activities in order to bring custom-made advertisements, is a topic that is concealed to many people and can cause damage. Search engines like Google store the searches you have made and in 2006 there were search logs released which had personal information that people were judged by (Andrews 716-717). Data aggregation is the main way Facebook makes its money. Andrews believes that it’s an invasion of privacy and is not known well enough by the public. This article is aimed at young and new internet users that are ignorant of the possible dangers on the web. Lori Andrews is successful at informing novice users about the dangers of behavioral
Throughout history, social movements have continuously formed because of a person who had the courage to stand up against the injustice they witnessed in every day live. When I was a child, I remember feeling as if it takes a superhero-like person to start a social movement. However, I have found that through the use of social media today, any person with a passion for making a change can spark a social movement. Social movements are a powerful way to help people believe that their voice matters and they should stand up for what they believe in. Before the advancement of technology, it took a lot longer for social movements to become prominent in society’s media outlets because of the difficulties of not having enough time in one’s life to
One’s amount of Facebook reflects how popular one wish to appear online more than how healthy one’s friendship truly is. Constant usage of Facebook allows user to potentially feel like they have a meaningful social life, when in reality, they are missing something. In Stephen Marche’s 2102 article, “Is Facebook making Us Lonely?” he notes that Facebook was introduced to the world in the midst of spreading and intensifying loneliness, an idea to which he greatly attributes Facebook’s appeal and success (Marche 26). Initially, social networking sites seem to be evidence of modern-day social interaction being easier and more convenient than ever.

Originally, Facebook was started in 2003 by a man named Mark Zuckerburg in his college dorm room at Harvard University. It began as a social network for Harvard students and then quickly expanded to universities across America. Facebook as we know it today started in the year 2004 and now does not only include college students but ages ranging from teens to middle-aged individuals. The social network site has quickly developed into one of the most trafficked networking websites which runs thousands of databases. By building a network that has spread across various countries, Facebook has successfully created a form of technology that allows people to connect with friends across the seas with different cultures.
Zuckerberg, being a computer genius, goes back to his dorm and begins blogging about his now ex-girlfriend and calls her bad names. He then visits to a website called “Kirkland House Face Book” and got an idea to compare two pictures of girls side by side and have people vote to see who they thought was “hotter.” He needed to get pictures so he hacked in to several Face Book databases, and downloaded their profiles. Needless to say, the male students loved the idea and the female students hated it, which leads to a variable of interpersonal communication, sex and gender.

As a result they are contributing to the society and refining it. As our predecessor said words are powerful than words. Swords can change a nation but words can revolutionize the world a better
As you can see, in a society where interacting and over-sharing online is a trend, you probably speak to friends and family through electronic devices and social media than face-to-face. Many surveys have been addressed that one in four college students and adults would spend more time socializing online than they do in person. Whenever you attend a classroom, party or club, you can see that there is someone with their head down looking at the phone, ignore the group and reject to speak in a conversation. Moreover, if they have free time in the weekend to hang out, they tend to want to stay at home and chat or text through social media. As a result, the relationships is deteriorating,

In today’s age of internet and social media, almost everyone has a Facebook page. Most people use Facebook as a way to communicate with old friends and family that may live far away. Others use it to promote a business or event. Facebook has negative and positive aspects. Facebook is a great, as users can create and customize their own profiles with photos, videos, and other information about themselves. Facebook also has an option where a user can private message another user without having to know their personal email address. Friends can also browse the profiles of other friends’ pages and comment on their updated status or just write on the wall of the person. Facebook is a great website for finding old friends and connecting to new ones. Facebook timeline is also great for networking, whether it be for personal choices such as dating or meeting new people, or for business choices such as promoting a business or event. Facebook does have some negative aspects such as privacy. There have been many changes to the Facebook privacy settings where a user may not realize they are sharing their posts publicly. Also a user can over share, such as posting pictures and tagging friends that others may not want posted. Another disadvantage is Facebook is time consuming. Users can find themselves spending too much time on Facebook and rarely engaging in face to face contact with their friends and family. Overall, despite a few drawbacks, Facebook is a great form of social media, easy to use, and a great way to stay connected with friends and family.

Facebook is beneficial to one's social life because they can continuously stay in contact with their friends and relatives, while others say that it can cause increased antisocial tendencies because people are not directly communicating with each other.
