When I watched the movie “Fly Away Home”, I thought its going to be about some kid getting lost in another city and try’s to find himself home at the end, but when I first time realize this situation about this girl and her dad trying to help the geese. With how they can help them by flying with Thomas contraptions that he makes as a living, he soon realizes that how peculiar that the geese only responds to his daughter Amy instead of him. After in the movie the geese saw Amy first and took her as their mother. Geese learn how to survive from their mother and in this movie, they have imprinted on Amy. The Strange Situation, in which infants are exposed to eight different episodes involving the mother and/or a stranger, is widely used to test attachments, although there are many different views regarding its validity and reliability. In order for the Strange Situation to be considered reliable, a child tested at different times should produce the same reaction every time; this was supported by Main, Kapland and Cassidy’s 1985 study which found that 100% of infants who had been securely attached before 18 months were still securely attached at 6 years, and 75% of those who had been anxious-avoidant remained so. One interpretation of attachment type (based on the Strange Situation) is that it is a fixed characteristic and therefore cannot be changed, but if there is a change in family circumstances this is often not the case. Attachments to mothers and fathers have been proven to be independent – Main and Weston (1981) found that children reacted differently depending on which parent they were with. Birds are a class of vertebrates that live in nature. Most of them are characterized by an ability to fly, free to roam the sky. They are not meant to live in captivity. Therefore, the short story entitled "A Bird in the House" suggests a theme of entrapment and a struggle for freedom, a topic that resonates throughout the novel. Vanessa is one character who experiences a sense of confinement in the story. Her family lives with her grandmother MacLeod, a tyrannical woman who loves order, and who wants to continue living like she did in the past, before the Depression, with a housekeeper to cook and clean, and to be able to make frequent purchases of table-cloths and handkerchiefs of Irish linen. Vanessa's father, Ewen, explains that, "the house is still the same, so she thinks other things should be too" (55). Vanessa experiences a physical confinement in the MacLeod house, being forbidden to enter those rooms that contained valuables objects such as her grandmother's bedroom and the living room which she calls, "another alien territory where I had to tread warily" (47). This physical confinement led to an emotional detachment. As an adult reflecting on her time growing up, Vanessa says that "the MacLeod house never seemed like home to me" (46). Moreover, Vanessa experienced some emotional confinement in the Connor house as her grandfather Connor was a domineering man who did not approve of many types of people so Vanessa grew up without the interaction with many people outside her immediate family. There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong.
