Famous actress Mae West once said,“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough” (Torres). My generation may be obsessed with the phrase YOLO, but we really need to give our career choice some good thought. I hear people all around telling adolescents to decide on a career that they love. I remember hearing this all throughout elementary and middle school. Finally as a freshman I’ve actually given this question some real thought. I’ve looked at the careers F.B.I. agent and a barber. These careers differ in many fields like work environment, job tasks, and training requirements. F.B.I. agent’s and barber’s have very different work environments. As a barber, my job task would be to provide haircutting, hairstyling, and a range of other beauty services (“Barbers, Hairdressers, and Cosmetologists”). This would be a fantastic job for me because I am a very social person that enjoys working with people. I’m very creative and like a challenge; like the tasks my clients would throw at me. Although being a barber fits my personality, an F.B.I. agent seems like a better fit for me. As an F.B.I. agent I am an employee of the federal government. I “investigate and enforce more than 300 federal statutes that encompass terrorism, organized crime, white collar crime, public corruption, financial crime, government fraud, bribery, copyright matters, civil rights violations, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, air piracy, foreign counterintelligence, interstate criminal activity, and fugitive and drug trafficking matters” (“FBI Agents” 399). I chose to be an F.B.I. agent because it fits most of the things I am looking for in life. I want a job that allows me to travel, work indoors and outdoors, work spontaneously, never have two days be the same, and be the boss of people and enforce rules. I find those wants as an F.B.I. agent. Now if I’m asked by somebody what I want to be when I grow up I can finally answer their answer truthfully. I want to be an F.B.I.
