Extra-tropical Storms, Extreme Weather Should We Worry or Not?

In recent news, The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has released the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of Working Group I. The AR5 increased the certainty of human caused climate change from 90% to 95%. The AR5 was published in September of 2013 and is set for finalization in 2014. It is expected to present a clearer view on the current climate conditions. It consists of three Working Groups (WGs) and a Synthesis Report (SYR). In section 6 of chapter 2, the IPCC-AR5 discusses the current storm trends of extra-tropical storms and extreme climate events overall. The studies of the AR5 suggests a robust global climate change in certain climate extremes such as daily temperatures and heat waves. The AR5 offers a less conclusive finding for other climate variables, such as extra-tropical storms, the main topic of the present article. The IPCC, created at the request of several government bodies, is a scientific intergovernmental body under the watch of the United Nations. It was first established in 1988 by two United Nations organizations, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and later endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly. The IPCC seeks to provide scientific assessments on current climate issues, the risk of climate change caused by human activity, and the possible outcomes for the future. The IPCC consists of three Working Groups (WG). The WG I is responsible for the assessment of the current physical scientific aspects of climate change. The WG II is responsible for the assessment of the impact of climate change on socio-economic and natural systems. The WG III is responsible for the assessment of available options for mitigating climate change. ... ... middle of paper ... ...unblinking eyes in order to see for myself what is truly ailing our environment. I decided to start taking action instead of waiting to be assured in the next ten years or so that there is a 100% confidence in climate change due to human activities, at which point it will be too late. No one can say for certain what the future holds, but do you not think it will be better to stand up and take charge instead of sitting by and letting ourselves be consumed by trivial matters? So again I ask, are you worried and will you be willing to stand up and take charge? Works Cited IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Nov. 2013. .
