Exploring the Meaning of Fundamentalism At the beginning of the semester, I wrote that my understanding of fundamentalism was simple as follows: the basics behind something whether it be language, concept, or religion. Throughout the semester the readings, movies, and discussions have helped to further develop my understanding of fundamentalism and to give me a more specific definition. The definition that I have formulated throughout the semester to define fundamentalism is as follows: to have such as strong belief in something that the persons life becomes based around that belief and there is a desire for all people to believe in the same thing. There is not possibility of fundamentalists accepting the truths of other traditions. Fundamentalism is a term used with many different things, not only religion.
