In recent years, the rising use of addictive drugs has become one of the biggest social problems menacing certain countries. The illicit use of a variety of drugs appears to be increasing. Generally, a drug can be a substance, other than those required for the maintenance of normal health, which by its chemical nature alters the structure or function of a living organism. In this essay, drugs are more appropriate defined as psychoactive drugs such as ecstasy and cannabis, which lead to the influence of the central nervous system in mood, thought and behaviour. In addition, drugs can be classified into three categories ¡V depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens (McGill, 2002, 78). It is widely believed that taking drugs can lead to harmful consequences on the individual and society. Therefore, this essay is concentrated on explaining the physical and psychological effects on individuals and the social impacts on society.
Despite the belief that the perceived benefits outweigh the negatives, the negligence of the harmful consequences and dangers of drug taking results from the little or no drugs¡¦ knowledge among the drug takers. The truth is taking drugs may bring physical and psychological effects on individuals. Taking ecstasy as an example, also known as MethyleneDioxyMethAmphetamine, is a drug made with Lysergic Acid Diethylamide and amphetamines. The effects of ecstasy begin about thirty minutes after use and may last for four hours (Hurwitz, 1992, 21). Owing to the new development of youth ¡§club¡¨ or ¡§rave¡¨ culture, there is a rise of ecstasy use as recreational drugs among the young generation. Referring to National Drug Strategy, it explains that 40 per cent of the Australian population aged 14 or older has tried cannabis which is the most widely used illicit drug in Australia. This is followed by ecstasy which is the most frequently used amphetamines due to the substantial rise in the use and availability of amphetamine-type substances (1998, Internet).
Although the drug takers may experience positive changes in feelings and emotions, a high energy level and increasing confidence in the first few hours after taking ecstasy, there are harmful effects afterwards. Likewise, it may still be suggested that the use of drug may also have social impacts such as increase in crime rate, family and work problems as well as economic costs on society. Drug abuse has detrimental effects on both individuals and society that has no sure end but tragedy. It is a dilemma that cannot be neglected. Future and current societies and governments must work to address to it, otherwise it will spread like a disease.

He makes them an honest, loving, wholesome family that play a central role in the town. They play a prominent role in everyone’s lives to create better well-being and opportunity. Time froze on September 11th , 2001. The horrendous event that took place on this day shocked the world. Fear, horror and grief were felt during and after this ‘cold blooded’ crime was committed. Time also froze on November 15, 1959. This was the day that the Clutter family was brutally murdered in Holcomb, Kansas. Although this crime is much smaller than 9/11 it still brought fear to a town that once had its doors unlocked. Truman Capote wrote about this murder in his book In Cold Blood. It explains how Richard Eugene Hickock and Perry Edward Smith were able to commit these appalling crimes. Their cold blooded nature is perfectly depicted in the way they executed these murders. Legal drinking age varies by many countries. In U.S.A, There has been a lot of debate when it comes to the legal drinking age here in US. When it comes to law. There is always an opinion, some are for it and some are against. When it comes to the legal drinking age being 21 we are totally against it. Many people still say the government should prohibit using alcoholic drinks at the age of 18. Legal adults deserve to be treated as such it is time the arbitrary drinking age of 21 Was lowered to 18, because there is no evidence that the National Minimum Drinking Age Act is effective or protects the people it is intended to protect . The Notional Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed in 1984 in an attempt to decrease the number of drunk driving related accidents. The act threatens to decrease a state’s budget for high way construction and maintenance if it sets its drinking age under 21. According to Cuccoli , “ Keeping the drinking age at such a low age is leading to more cases of binge drinking,” (Cuccoli). Mothers against drunk driving reports that the number of alcohol related fatalities involving a vehicle decreased from 26, 173 to 16, 885 between 1982 and 2005.
Eighteen year olds all over the United States are arguing for the drinking age to be lowered. “I can fight and die for this country, so why can’t I crack a beer,” many college students argue (Daniloff). Henry Wechsler, a Lecturer in the Department of Society, Human Development, and Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, found that, “in 2001, 77.4% of underage college students drank alcohol. Furthermore, half of the students under 21 years of age reported that they found alcohol very easy to obtain” (Vecchia). We all know that gaining access to alcohol is easy and drinking in college is even easier. So why shouldn’t the drinking age be lowered to eighteen? Regardless of what the law argues, underage drinking is going to occur. Besides, at age eighteen you legally an adult, you have the power to make your own decisions, consuming and buying alcohol should be one of them. I believe the drinking age should not only be lowered because as adults we have the right to making our own choices, but also because, underage drinking is becoming very common in college to make friends and fit in, and more people underage are easily gaining access to alcohol with fake identifications cards or from other people.

There is much debate between students, parents, and educators as to whether or not public school students should be required to wear uniforms. Many feel that uniforms save time and money, as well as promoting equality among students. However, others doubt the cost-effectiveness of uniforms, and postulate that uniforms strip students of vital individuality and freedom. Practicality, safety, and freedom are three of the most commonly debated aspects of the requirement of uniforms.
School uniforms are a topic that comes up quite often in the Henderson County School District. The benefits of school uniforms that I find to be the most important are that it will decrease the crime rate and bad behavior, improve attendance, and increase school pride and unity within the school. Uniforms are a great way to change how our students learn and put them in the best atmosphere possible to improve their chances of success through education. Enforcing school uniforms can seem to be an expense problem and a way that the students can’t express their self-expression, but do uniforms actually take the place of that?
