Why Was Charles Town Difficult To Settle? Settling was extremely difficult for settlers in Charles Town who came from different European countries to make a better life. Many European settlers came to America in 1670 because they wanted a better life. People came from all over Europe and came together to settle in the 13 colonies and many people ended up living in Charles Town. Settling means to adapt to a more suitable lifestyle. The settlers learned to deal with all the difficulty of trying to settle Charles Town because there wasn’t much they could do but adapt to the hardships and make the best with what they have. The main question is: why was Charles Town difficult to settle? Well the reason why Charles Town was difficult to settle is because of the geography, lack of resources, and disease. The geography made it difficult to settle in Charles Town because the soil in some places was very dense and it made it harder to build anything and it made it difficult to grow crops, which was a major …show more content…

Resources the colonist needed such as food and clothing was not the easiest thing to get back then. Food was difficult because some of the soil was no good for growing crops, and even though there were many animals, the colonist did not have very many weapons with them and could not kill the animals to get their meat and hide. Also, there were many swamps which was very inconvenient because swamps don’t have the greatest soil and they don’t have sturdy land to build houses and villages. In Doc B it mentioned that there was also a good amount of loam, marl, clay, and castile soap which may have made it difficult to settle in Charles Town. This is another reason why it was hard to settle in Charles
