Why I Should be Chosen for This Scholarship
Why would I deserve this scholarship? I deserve this scholarship because my accomplishments, my incentive, and my perseverance, have come from education and will provide me with a brighter future, being privileged enough to be able to go to school for kindergarten through my senior year has made me the person that I am today and has guided me through many obstacles and has helped me gain many accomplishments, and being granted this scholarship will help me further my education and lead me to success.
I do not come from privileged family, and everything I have, I have worked for, and I’m not just talking about material things. All of my accomplishments that I have been fortunate enough to achieve I have had to work to my highest potential to attain. I have been on the A honor roll for my entire high school career, I have lettered in Varsity Cheerleading for seven consecutive seasons and was chosen for captain of the varsity team my junior year, I currently stand as the Battalion Executive Officer in our Smith-Cotton Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Tiger Battalion, and the Treasurer of

Education has not only made me into the person I am today, but has encouraged me to work towards my goals and do what’s best for me. The education and opportunities that the Sedalia School District has offered me has greatly improved my interest and outlook on furthering my education, accomplishing my goals, and has encouraged me to push myself to be the best that I can be. Furthering my education is a very important goal of mine and it will have a vast impact on my life as I work towards achieving all of my goals to which I have set for myself. Being granted the opportunity to further my education with more opportunities will guide me farther and encourage and support my plans and decisions for my goals and
Individuals may be gifted with certain privileges because of the position one holds in society. Most importantly, one can obtain certain privileges from being born with them. One might be “born” with certain privileges because of one’s race, ethnicity, religion and or social class. The most significant factor that may influence one’s obtainment of privileges is social class. Although, race also plays a crucial role. The privileges I obtain surface from my position in society. I don’t feel as if I acquire privileges because of my race and ethnicity. I feel as though that the privileges I acquire are earned, not given. My perspective of this arises from the social stratum in my proximity. The concept that hard work will get one to their desired
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
Feel I qualify for this scholarship because I love to help people. Through different experiences, such as sports and school, I have learned and demonstrated various leadership skills. Being a Link crew leader not only taught me how to be a leader but, it help me have faith in myself and to always look up to younger people. I joined link crew so I could help our new 10 graders find their way around, and to feel included and accepted at their new school. For example during orientation in august I was giving good amount of advice to my sophomore group to be able to survive high school since I am a senior this year This made me proud and humbled that I could make a huge impact in someone's life. Another reason is I am good at organization and
I deserve to win the $1,000 Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship because I will change lives with its help. I plan to become an early childhood educator and will continue with school until I become just that. I believe that with the help of this scholarship, I will help many children reach goals that are just as significant as my own. Also, I will be able to set an example for children who may have not come from financially stable homes, and show that anything is possible if you put forth the effort. My parents are divorced and I have been evicted from 2 homes in the past three years; however that has not stopped me from getting my high school diploma and setting further goals for myself.
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
I should receive a DCU because I believe that it will allow me to be able to further my education and pursue my dreams that I have. This scholarship will help me pay for my college tuition and classes. The college I plan on attending will be in North Carolina so I will be paying in state tuition and I’m trying my best to lower the cost of that. I want to major in art or architecture and I plan on working for a major architecture business of even running my own business. If not that then I plan to become a famous artist, I am confident in my ability to do both of those because I have been studying art in high school from the beginning courses all the way to the independent study courses where I choose my own projects. The DCU scholarship is
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
I choose to challenge myself by taking honors and AP classes. I can overcome obstacles that stand in my way and persevere through tough problems. I participate in school through my involvement in Student Council as an Executive Treasurer, Key Club as an active member, Varsity Tennis, Science Club, Band as Section Leader and National Honor Society. As well as in school, I help out in my community, whether it’s at my church, as a volunteer at the Bitterroot Public Library, or helping to preserve the Daly Mansion. If I am awarded this scholarship, I will use it towards college tuition and I will work hard to pursue my career as an
Even from the start of out lives, we are all defined by what types of lives our parents live. The opportunities we are given in life may be determined by the type of life we grow up in. If we are born into a wealthy family, our chances are automatically better than those of someone who grew up in a poverty stricken environment. As Thomas Phipps states, “I am a member of the privileged American class known as the WASPs, the silver spoon people, the people who were handed things from an early a...
When I was growing up I find that I was a privileged child. I was also not that kid that went around with five hundred dollars’ worth of clothes on or wiped their butt with twenty dollar bills. When I was born me, my mother, and father lived in a small home outside of Statesboro Georgia in the middle of nowhere. When I was born my mom was fresh out of college but had no job. My father who was working 10 hours a day just to make about 20,000 a year didn’t even have a crib put together for me when I came home from the hospital. We lived in a somewhat shack that was barely livable. Luckily that following school year my mom got a job and my dad went to college to further his education and to later graduate, get a promotion, and move us into a nice new house. Now onto this last summer before starting college where I went on a cruise, stayed at a lake house, and went to church camp. Did I earn it by doing well in school and graduating or did I not earn it because I am just expected to graduate? Was this an earned privilege or an unearned privilege?
The reason that I do not consider myself as a privileged person overall is because of my socioeconomic status. My father is a salesman while my mother is a banker and neither of them have a college education. I am a first generation student who lives in Cleveland, Ohio and who attended Cleveland Public Schools. The only reason that I was able to attend private high school was because of scholarships that I earned. My family has had Affordable Care Act insurance, has been on food stamps, and has struggled financially for years. During my senior year of high school, I worked about 30 hours a week and during the summer I worked two different jobs totaling to over 40 hours a week. I do not think that I am a privileged person because things have
A freshman college class introduces me to Economics much like how New York City introduces me to the United States. Through books and media, I came into contact with New York, which ignited my initial interest in America. This seed of admiration eventually emerged as one of my life-long goals – to study in the US. I have always been determined to complete my study at this world-capital, had my dream of studying in the US come into fruition. And there is no better fit for me than the New York University.
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
I get that it is not all about money, but my family does identify with the upper-middle class, which allows me to have a lot of resources and privileges. I have always had access to really good and affordable health care, something that I never thought about until now and definitely take advantage of it. I never have to worry about going to the doctors when I feel ill, as I know I am covered by insurance and can afford to do so. The care I receive too is always top of the line and some of the best doctors available. I also have always had access to education. I went to pre-school to begin with and then 12 years of public schooling and now college. I am extremely thankful that my family can afford to send me to college, as I am well aware that that is something that tons of people do not get to do. With that being said, I am not eligible for any scholarships as my family is stated to make too much money. I do understand that a lot of people cannot afford it and need those scholarships, but I have always had a hard time with that since my family has a lot of other expenses and could use the money too to help pay with my college. I feel really guilty typing that, but I also get really frustrated that I am not eligible for any scholarships due to how I identify. Continuing on, identifying with the class I do, I do strive to work as hard as I can so that I can continue to have
My main vision encompassed providing administrators, teachers, students and parents with the resources necessary to achieve high levels of learning and academic performance. As one of the school leaders for a school with alternative setting, I believe that our over-aged and under-credited students can achieve and become prepared to enter in a post –secondary educational program
