Why did the U.S enter World War 2 in the first place? America was one of the few countries that did not get involved with battle during the war. This all changed in the first month of 1941. The U.S did get involved until the attack on Pearl Harbor on January, 7, 1941 by the Japanese occurred. This is the most common and well known reason for America joining the war but it is not the only reason why we got involved. Before the U.S got involved with the war, they were allies with both Britain and France who were fighting in the war at the time. Even though they didn't send soldiers they would still send military aid to both. The U.S needed to be able to provide the necessary production to meet the Allied demand. The government then focused on spending what was required to help sustain the war effort. If one of these countries needed any help the U.S would have gotten involved and fought with their allies. Congress approved Roosevelt's declaration of war on December 8, 1941. Although the attack on Pearl Harbor killed and injured thousands of people, the naval forces were able to rebound from the attack. Roosevelt knew that the U.S would have to meet demands for the production of war goods set by the Allied forces, so the government created the War Production Board (WPA), to have industries focus on producing goods …show more content…

The unemployment rate dropped from 25% to 10% nearly overnight after factories allowed more people to work (PBSLearningMedia Staff). Thousands of people were able to acquire jobs in the defense industries, most them being women. African Americans also made huge strides in society by achieving their economic, political and social rights (gwu.edu staff). America was able to lessen the harm of the Depression after the U.S joined the war, even though the war is infamous in history and one of the most brutal, especially for Jewish
