In Suzette Haden Elgin’s Native Tongue, infants of linguistic households are required to acquire various alien languages to become native speakers of Earth for the new languages studied. Our society, for the most part, understands that adults acquire foreign languages differently from the acquisition of a second language by a child. Furthermore, most people generally have the understanding that children learn languages quickly and easily compared to adults. Adults, however, are able to acquire foreign languages in fair or controlled conditions. There may be resulting differences between language acquisitions of new languages, but the rate at which adults acquire second languages should not be a factor.
In my class, I have children who speak other languages at home, my goal is to include them and their language into our daily routine and this help teaches the other children to be open to the difference. I incorporate this into our classroom by hanging both language’s around our room, and go over the basic’s words during our group time for example, numbers, colors, shapes, basic sight words. The children’s whose first language maybe different will be excited to share with their friends what they know. I also find stories that are bilingual to use during our story time.

Following on from the I CAN report (2006) this independent cross governmental review was undertaken by John Bercow (2008) at the request of Alan Johnson, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families (2007), and noted by Mroz (2012) as the most extensive review of Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) undertaken in England. The review, which assessed efficiency and effectiveness of provision for SLCN, was facilitated through major consultation with both parent and professional, alongside personal experience and carried out through discussions and questionnaires. In conjunction with this, support and contribution was made by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the write out(DCSF). The RCSLT (2008) highlights how the review is the most significant policy, having long-term impact on the future of SLCN.
My essay topic is the language development of deaf infants and children. In my opinion, this is an important topic to discuss, due to the lack of public knowledge concerning the deaf population. Through this essay, I wish to present how a child is diagnosed as having a hearing loss (including early warning signs), options that parents have for their children once diagnosed (specifically in relation to education of language), common speech teaching methods used today, typical language development for these children, and some emotional, social, and mental difficulties faced by the deaf child and the child’s family that have an immense effect on the child’s education.

The team was able to trace changes in brain activity in new born infants, and thus provided quantitative evidence that memory forms before birth (Partanen et. al, 2013). Language is an important part of our lives. I remember when I arrived to USA I could speak a little English.
